1 October, 2008 at 9:10 am #376913Whilst ChatGuideGD is perfectly capable of looking after herself (and her excellent quizzes) I can heartily endorse Kaspersky Internet security version 7.0 (I think that there is a 2008 version just released).
It is an excellent real time anti virus; anti-spyware; and firewall combined. The two really good things about it is that firstly it (automatically) updates its virus etc definitions a couple of times every day – thus ensuring that your computer protection is always absolutely up to date. Secondly it runs in the background with really really low ‘overheads’.
This means that, unlike other anti-virus software, it doesn’t gobble up available RAM and so it doesn’t noticeably slow your computer down.
It is really quick to load at start up (unlike say Norton/Symantec which take seemingly ages) and it isn’t unnecessarily intrusive with loads of pop up warnings all the time (like McAfee).
So I urge you to give it a go. If you have any issues in configuring the easy to use interface then post here and I’ll help you to correctly set it up.
BTW – OK it’s not free but although you have to pay for using it, it is rapidly becoming the anti virus / firewall choice for computer professionals.

God knows why this lot can’t hear that bloody show
2 October, 2008 at 8:11 am #376915There are two possible reasons:
1. the volume control on their computer is a) muted or b) turned down too low.
2. The batteries on their hearing aids are flat.
The solution is to a) turn on /up the computer volume or b) replace the hearing aid batteries.
I hope that the 7 Waves radio (potential) listeners fin these tips useful.

First, they only tune in 10 mins before the quiz starts and moan they can’t hear it.
Second, they all moan like hell for the next 2 hours about it.
Third, the ones who can hear it:
pick “Osman/Abba” records so the rest of us wish we couldn’t hear it too.
Think yourself lucky your tuck up in bed at your rest home and doped-up by the staff by 8pm, not listening to the rubbish Arron plays.
