Lord of the flies is a very political book, in a more profound sense than Animal Farm.
Animal Farm is about the Russian Revolution…Orwell found it difficult to get a publisher because of the pro-Soviet feeling in Britain during the war.
Don’t get me wrong, Orwell is a fine writer, though 1984 is a better novel (and Homage to Catalonia a better political book)
but Lord of the Flies is more profound, dealing with human nature, gang bullying and intimidation. It’s a profoundly Christian book too – Beelzebub is another word for the Lord fo the Flies..
