Anders Breivik has gone on trial over the murders of 77 people in Norway last summer

The right-wing fanatic admitted the bomb and gun attack but entered a plea of not guilty, claiming self-defence

The 33-year-old calls the rampage a “spectacular” attack.

Does anyone else like me think this man should not be shown giving right wing salutes to camera and smiling smugly…. surly NONE of this trial should be shown on camera? He is in his element playing to the camera. Its very disturbing he has been given this platform which must be dreadful for the families of the victims.

Don’t give him a second more camera visibility!

    That’s my opinion anyway :?

There are always photos of the accused going to and from court and there always will be as long as we all want to see what such monsters look like. We all want to know whether they look so different from you and me, whether we would spot them in our community, or whether they look disturbingly normal. Some will take advantage of that by standing proud and making their gestures, others will hide under a blanket…regardless, the photographers will be there, desperately trying to get their photos that will be syndicated world wide because of our natural curiosity.

In Norway they appear to allow photographs to be taken in the courtroom itself…that I’m not sure about, but then I’ve never been that sure about court cases being televised either…not just this case, ANY case. To me it trivialises the process.

As for having a platform: however appalling his crimes, he has pleaded not guilty and therefore has the right to defend himself in court. The good thing is that none of his testimony will be televised; indeed only selected parts of the trial will be televised. I haven’t seen anything to say what aspects will be shown but I would assume that it will be the family’s testimonies about the loss of their loved ones and maybe the verdict.

From what I’ve read many of the families of the victims intend to be in court every day, not just to see justice being done but also to try to gain some insight into why he did what he did, to try to gain some understanding of such a seemingly meaningless act. To deny him his right of defence and the platform that gives him would also be to deny them that opportunity.

I had the same disscusion with mates last night.

I totaly agree, He should not be givin the light of day. All it is doing is giving him as you said “platform” to “promote” his actions.
I think its disgusting the way he has been giving the time of day on TV/meida.

As I was saying to a mate last night…

    Is he insane?
    Nope, I dont think so.

I have this friend of a friend, and she is very strongly opinionated.
She has an opinion on everything and she would look down on you like a peice of crap if you didnt agree with her.

Healty minded people are able to “agree to disagree”.
strong minded over opinionated people like this can NOT see the other side of the bridge.
In there mind they are right and everybody is wrong.

This kind of behavour has nothing to do with mental illness. Its simply a personality trate or people with “tunel vision”.

He Knew what he was doing. He had it all planned out.
Its HIS opinion that he was doing the right thing, and because of his “tunel vision” he cant see the wrong in what he has done.

Back to all the publicity he has been getting. My only fear with this is that is a good posablity that somebody with a genuine mental illness will see him as some kind of hero, and be drawn into all the publisity and may in turn think…..”oh…if I do such and such a thing…I will get the same publisty and “fame”.

The only thing that should be in the media about him is the final verdict.

Good points! Agree with them all – however, I think he should be stuck in a looby bin for life – be harder than solitary confinement!!!

I just think he should not have a world wide stage jen… certainly let it be an open court but not broadcast to the world with him saluting and making prepared statements to the world… all that does is encourages others who might want the same. He is still committing his crime … not with bombs and guns but from the safety of a courtroom spilling all his hatred for us all to see…. and he is obviously delighted about it

As long as people want to see it, it will be available to view. It isn’t enough that so many people died or were injured, we now want all the gory details, we want to be outraged all over again and the media is there to provide it for us. If it didn’t sell papers or get viewers then the media wouldn’t cover it or it would be a footnote at the end of the evening news…does that say more about us or the media?

I had to laugh sardonically when he said he had killed them all, would it all again, and asked to be released please (pretty please)!!
    yeah..right

Trials have to take place, even for swine. And they are rightly reported, especially in a case of public interest like this. And I don’t think he is doing anything which doesn’t repel anybody but collectors of Nazi war memorabilia.

Punishment? Stick him in a room with a television playing Jermey Kyle non-stop? Allow a relative of each of those murdered a few minutes a day, with the instructions do what you like with him??

It’s people who may well imitate him who are the danger.

Actually no … that was my platform :D

Seems to me like people don’t think he should get the publicity but still want to read all about it….
