Ive just watched yet another advert asking for “just two pouds a month” for children in afica. in particular the poor little mite who has to walk half day to carry the families water supply for that day.. now whilst i feel for these poor beggars, i have to ask the very simple question, Why dont they just move their hut closer to the well ? these people live in a hut in the middle of a dessert ! so why dont they all just up sticks and move closer to water and aid ? it may seem a bit harsh to some. but if they can get water and aid to these people where they live. why dont tey get closer to the aid entres ?
i wait with tongue in cheek for the “your a racist” rants in reply…9 August, 2008 at 5:07 pm #360939@waspish wrote:

I don’t think of you as racist at all.
The point you make is a good one too – move house.
Not quite sure about the dessert though.
I mean, I love puddings myself but not after fetching water for half a day. :?9 August, 2008 at 5:13 pm #360940So they all just pick their huts up and move to where the water is then. So all the people from villages from miles and miles around, all must move to where the water is. And when they get there they find a place to put their huts, and then they all live happily ever after in what can now be termed a refugee camp or a ghetto!
Yep, excellent idea.. wonder why nobody ever thought of that one?

It’s not rocket science. They obviously used to have water and food and shelter… in their own villages. The water supply may have dried out or become contaminated, but, the village is still their home, and so they don’t want to leave it. At some point the water source will return nearer to their villages and their lives will go on as normal.
The next time we have a drought in this country, and we have to walk to a stand pipe to get our allowances of water, and say the stand pipe just happens to be 3 miles away – why don’t we all move to where the stand pipe is? And if people are already living there… why don’t we all just camp in their front gardens!
