Actually Fast, you indirectly raise a very good point.

When does a word become offensive or derogatory and to who does it have to be derogatory to be offensive.

You would not (I assume) use the word nig*er as it offends most people, no matter what their colour.

Most Germans despair and are annoyed with the continuing British obsession with the war (hence the “Kraut” name)- just because you do not find it offensive and indeed, along with most English males, will probably find it mildly amusing, a laugh or a joke, inoffensive (that is inoffensive to the user not the recipient), in fact it reminds me of Basil Fawlty (“don’t mention the war”). BUT if Germans find it offensive, at what point do we look at ourselves and instead of blaming others for finding it offensive, perhaps we should view our own narrow minded attitudes and xenophobia.

So using words like “sheep shagger” (which incidentally is used as a very derogatory term for Derby county fans so why ishouldnt it be derogatory when describing the welsh) or “chink” (I assume from the narrow eyes …”chinks” of light etc, maybe not?) or Spic actually can be just as offensive to those who view them and are of that race etc.

And yes, I can eb as guilty as anyone of this but my point is, perhaps it is time we looked at what is and isnt offensive to both giver and receiver

actually i agree wif sunny………….we ave a mosque an a pa/ki shop at the end of the street. the lads who own it fs sum reason have given themselves western names…….mo……issac……..jake. dunno their real names. i was in the shop once wif my son and his g/friend rang him……he sed.wont be long i’m in the pa/ki shop. no one batted an eyelid. my g/son has friends of all creeds…..other week i had a chinese girl…..a west indian…….an a muslim kid all sat eating their tea around the table…….they regularily insult each other like most 9 yr olds. when my g/son an his best mate fall out his mate calls him a stupid white honkey…….. :D :D an he calls him golli/wog hair pml. anyway…….where we live its not the color of the skin we take notice of.its how friendly we all are…an wots a few insults btween friends. :D

I have always said it was derogatory, in the chats, for Pakistanis not to be able to spell their country..I understand why you can’t spell Charles Dickens and Scunthorpe but Pakistan, no I don’t get it!
