IMHO it is high time that alcopops were removed from the market.

These dangerous, highly sugared ‘childrens’ drinks are, I submit, responsible for much of teen and adolescent bad behaviour currently, a positive lead in to more adult drinks for young people.

Our young people are being groomed, by these attractive, cheap, deadly bottles.

surely this is only part of the problem?………what about all day drinking?……….what about cheap booze in the supermarkets?

Cheap booze in supermarkets also includes Alcopops, and I believe it is these that draw people, young people, into a culture of alcohol fuelled behaviour.

If we can stop making cheap booze, and alcopops so available i believe we will do much to begin solving our culture of binge drinking.

I would also like to see sensible licensing hours re- imposed in our pubs.

Right killjoy me…but a sensible one!

actually Josisa I’m in agreement with you on this one…….all day drinking hours wont save the pubs in our towns so I think they should go back to 10.30 – 2.30pm and 6.00 – 10.30pm opening hours.

Why not try to educate people more about the dangers of binge drinking and stop glorifying drinking in tv and films etc. Banning things will not solve anything in my opinion. That pub which was opened up on the motorway services is a disgrace though which should never of been allowed. I wish I had been taught more about the effects of binge drinking growing up but I learned the hard way and now barely drink at all after seeing what it has done to certain members of my family. I just wish that some of our youth would realise that getting drunk doesn’t make you “cool” and that infact you can have more fun while sober but sad to say a lot don’t see it that way.

Booze is just like any other addiction, if you want it you can get it, no matter what drinking hours or other methods of restrictions are imposed.
You have to WANT to stop drinking, in order to stop drinking.
The problem is within the person.
The only way to resolve the problem is realising/admitting you have one…and acting on it (teens included).

Cheap Sherry and Cider (Strongbow) thats what I used to buy from the local corner shop when I was 15-16 It’s not a recent problem, the problem is the relatively low prices compared to them. In contrast pub prices have rocketed, 24p a pint it was when I was 16.
