so Mr Joe Calzaghe , 36, has retired, and does so with the same good timing he always displayed professionally.

46 fights, 46 wins, 0 losses. The longest reigning world champion at any weight, just short of 11 years as WBO champ at super-middle, after taking the title from Chris Eubank in 1997.

Ring magazine’s world light heavy champ after beating two American greats in their own backyard. Unique for a British fighter. A BBC Sports Personality Of Year, CBE , MBE , he fought with great hand speed, ringcraft, durability and stamina.

There’s still a few million dollars in the game, but our Welsh legend is taking the wishes of his children and mother into consideration. And a mention for his father Enzo, who, with no boxing background, kept his son unbeaten as amateur and professional.

    Quality.

err btw…..This was the most important bit of all

For anyone who thinks they’re feeling a bit legendary today, or who doesn’t seem too knowledgable about boxing.
