English as a second language is the most used language in the world and is used in more countries as a first language than any other.

Also for example there are companies in, for example Holland, where the language used is English even though the employees are all Dutch

    Agreed J.

The irony is, England has always been multi cultural.

Indeed the English language itself is multi cultural…

You’re entitled to your opinion Terry, of course, but it seems to have nothing to do with this picture.

The group appears to have been deliberately selected to show which languages are spoken in addition to English at the school.

The only caption is your own, there is no indication that the different languages “divide” the children or anything to indicate that any common understanding of English unites them.

The children appear to be of different ages, so will be in different classes.

The photo does not show how representative they are of the school as a whole.

Each child seems to identify with a different language. The only duplication seems to be two children of different complexion who speak Polish.

There is no indication of the children’s educational performance or their ability to speak English in addition to the language on the sign.

There is no indication of the level of “benefitting” or otherwise that each child gets from multiculturalism or from the languages they speak.

We have a picture of a disparate group of children behaving well, obeying instructions and by their conduct, representing their school positively.

    I like that.

Terry I don’t know where you got the pic from but you might want to delete it…….parents have to sign consent forms for their childrens faces to be shown on various stipulated sights……….I don’t think JC will be one of them.

I know we have slightly gone off topic with the languages thing……..but Terry what is the answer? Close the floodgates now? Yes ok imagne that can be done…..would that make you happy? What about the people already here? By all accounts we are overpopulated by foreigners by your posts…what about those people? Sift through some invaders and send them back? How do we pick and choose?

Put it down here what you would like to happen

    Let me point out a few facts here;

    1) England is already the most densely populated country in Europe and one of the most densely populated countries in the world. We never used to be; but now we are.

    2) 93% of all immigrants that come to the UK settle in England.

What do we do about it? I have absolutely no idea; I’m not an expert, but I do blame Gordon Brown and The Labour Party for their part in creating this scoiety. It is doomed to fail.
Bad government has landed us in a hopeless situation. It’s almost like we’re a runaway train heading for disaster.

Right now there are school children studying in classrooms all over eastern Europe whose future and aspirations lie in the UK. We have to build homes for them before they get here, create new jobs for them and build new schools for their children to go to. And we have to build new prisons too.

Britain is already overcrowded and it’s set to get even even moreso. I’d just thought I’d point that out.

Colonialsism was alright when it was the UK painting the world map red but the spin off has to be accepted. My father in law came to the UK in the 50’s from India though he is of Irish descent and his ancestor’s were in the British Army.

Its a shame when interesting discussions come down to statements like that. If you know your history you will know that Britain was one of many ‘colonial’ powers. Aspects of it are nothing to be proud of whereas some are.

Can we not debate matters that affect us NOW without constantly being beaten around the head with the PAST??

No country and no set of people of any race or religion are without their histories, murky or otherwise!
