IF you could get your child microchipped when they were very young, in a painless and inexpensive way,so if they ever got lost/kidnapped,you could immediately track them by gps, would you?
13 January, 2013 at 7:41 pm #517197Heck Cosy… what a question
You know it wouldn’t surprise me if in the future this is a real dilemma for parents…and maybe eventually it will be done by law at birth…… its not something I think should be done…. but truly in today’s society I can see it happening.
Should it happen now though? Personally I wouldn’t let it happen to my kids….. more than a step too far for me……. Big Brother is just around the corner …what a thought
13 January, 2013 at 8:36 pm #517198i think i possibly would………as a woman i can walk around with a contraceptive chip in my arm if i wish so i don’t see it as an issue…….if it stops children being taken out of the country like maddie mccann and the young indian girl who was away from her mother for 3 years then i don’t see it as a bad thing at all……..it wouldn’t neccessarily have to be given to every child but say to a child who may live in a family whose situation could be unstable………..thought provoking rogue
13 January, 2013 at 10:39 pm #517199No, I couldn’t do it. Not because of any concern about civil liberties though. If i had kids I would pine for the good ol’ Victorian days of yore where the cheeky little ragamuffins were treated with abject contempt and put to work as chimney sweeps or at the very least begging street urchins.
My reasons are – and i’m quite angry with you for putting this idea out there for public discussion – that we wouldn’t stop at kids. I can imagine if I was ever to get married the unfortunate Mrs Trawler would ensure that i’m micro-chipped and prevent my having too many nights out with the boys. Imagine trying to tell your better half you’re stuck in traffic and on your way home when the pesky GPS system pinpoints your sorry body as sitting in the snug at the Red Lion Inn.
14 January, 2013 at 12:18 am #517200I remembered reading about the micro chipping of children years ago … had to trawl back through Google to try and find the article … I didn’t find the exact one but it stated very much the same … that the first child in the UK was to be fitted with hers aged 11 … in 2002!!! Its late so I haven’t looked any further into whether or not it went ahead but it seems this isn’t a ‘new idea’.
At present here and for many years passed … and I’m not sure if it is nationwide … all newborn babies on maternity wards/delivery suites etc are given a little device that is placed into the infants clothing etc .. and will trigger an alarm if anyone tries to remove the child from the ward without first removing the device!!
Would I have my child ‘chipped’??? …. I shall have to think more on that question I’m afraid!!

Amazing we live in an age where this is even thought of to be discussed. I am also shocked it goes back documented to 2002.
Reading the different reasons so far for and against I totally understand the individuals point of views. Not sure where I stand on this. It just reminds me of an animal being chipped, or our cars having those things in them to track them if they are stolen. Cars and the like are possesions and quite frankly not a big deal if they are stolen, but a child taken who is chipped that can be tracked would be amazing beyond words.
Don’t feel comfortable with it though. It’s not the norm, not yet anyway, maybe in years to come it will be normal and it will be an easier concept to get your head round.
I can imagine the rich and famous chipping their kids for obvious reasons. Would kidnappers try locate these chips and remove them if they had a child held to ransom? Scary, if the chip cannot be removed easily, they are hardly going to use a well known surgeon recommended by a Medical Body! Even scarier if the chip is easily removed.
When does the chip come out? On your 18th birthday? Imagaine Hollywood stars having Chip Removal Parties to celebrate 18 years of “safety”.
My god what a load of waffling shyte I have just typed…..sorry :lol:14 January, 2013 at 11:45 am #517202It was interesting shyte thought kenty :D
Must admit it occurred to me about chip removal…someone who takes a child wouldn’t be put off by it…..I can imagine a Stanley knife being part of their chip removal kit…shudders. Difficult question this Cosy…I can see the advantages in some situatons but like others I would need to think about it more before making a decision :?

Actually thinking about it husband chipping is a good idea :D …. could the chip be ingested via a shepherds pie or something similar without the recipient knowing?….. if so you should take that to Dragons Den…. I tell you … that’s a winner :D ,
14 January, 2013 at 12:00 pm #517205hmm yeh I might do
