your welcome!
and you have to admit that spider is rather handsom.
I’d have it stuffed and mounted
(wish I was a spider)
7 August, 2008 at 2:17 pm #359994Its getting worrying now. Every time I see a spider or a bug I have an urge to either photograph it, or run to JC and talk about it.
Little things please little minds I suppose
7 August, 2008 at 3:05 pm #359995I know that feeling well Sharon, I love bugs and every year collect a selection of them, put them in an empty plastic fish tank with some leaves and stones, take them to school for the children to see them. If they are brave enough they put their hands in for a tickle! My favourite are those shield bugs and beautiful copper coloured beetles.
Two years ago I nearly hyperventilated with excitement when at a friends house I saw what looked like a hummingbird it was so beautiful and on looking it up I discovered it was a hummingbird hawkmoth, however I draw the line at big spiders Ive got a phobia! The one you found in your garden is known in our family as a pappy garden spider, my sister and mother freak out at them but have to say I dont mind them so much and yours was a lovely speciman.
7 August, 2008 at 3:15 pm #359996So our little friend is called Pappy, I like that!
Im not sure whether he is still there or not after this wierd weather today Rose.
Last week we were watching an indoor spider on its web, a big fly got stuck to it (and it was big), so Mr Spider came out for a look from behind his little nook… took one look at the size of the fly, and legged it! Im unsure whether it was the sheer size of the catch, or if he thought he’s come back later when it was a bit more dead, but it made us laugh!
Its the sort of thing that would look great on video.

it had probably gone back to practice with its weights to get its strength up
Ive just gone in kitchen to get buns out (I do other things besides post) and there was a fly buzzing near back door. I rolled up the first thing to hand and whacked it
It was still alive but dazed so i got it between two fingers and carried it to Sven
Sven wasnt quick enough and it escaped so i got it again and held it down while sven closed its mouth
Trouble is sven has about 15 mouths
does this mean i have to find another 14 flies????Rose
your photo of the moth was beautiful
It so strange we have so many beautiful creatures here and we never really know about them
we should start a thread
Roses thread of beautiful british creatures
Go girl
I’m waiting in anticipation xxxx -
