I have to dash out, but I wanted to put this into wider circulation first.
It puts the recent Rochdale sex case in a wider context. It’s quite a long read and not the most reassuring, but thought provoking I think.
A bit heavy for a sunny Monday afternoon, I know . . . . .

23 July, 2012 at 11:32 am #504357Very thought provoking.
23 July, 2012 at 12:25 pm #504358good post
23 July, 2012 at 12:50 pm #504359Good points well made…
23 July, 2012 at 12:50 pm #504360Very good across the board view by the Guardian.
Regardless of race, colour or creed anyone who preys on children should be hung by their balls and left to rot.
23 July, 2012 at 1:34 pm #504361Now i see where they are coming from with this article and what the point is they are trying to make, and yes i fully agree with his points of view… but …
As in his words ” a black man ” who feels he has been a victim of racism, just cos he isnt asian is irrelevant, he has still felt the need to bring this to light, because of being a victim of racism, he is trying to make a point, that to be honest i don’t think really needs making.
Any sound reasonable intelligent human being knows that any person whatever sex colour or creed that abuses children are equally in the wrong. This piece of journalism has been used to wave the victim flag again in my opinion, instead he should have just taken his complaint to whoever it is that deals with the media and equality, and complain about the papers that printed what they did and what they didnt. Apart from an initial headline about asians that committed this crime, i have seen no evidence that people are saying that because they are asian they are more prone to indulging in such offences, and indeed any narrow minded idiot that does deserves the full force of the law upon them. And his stats of 41 Asian gangs (of 230 in total) and 240 Asian individuals are a mere number. White people i believe are the majority still in this country and giving numbers not percentages isn’t a true representation of the facts at all. Personally although i can see why he may want to bring this to light, for me it just raises more issues about the whole racist thing. Let it go, deal with racism if it happens to you, and don’t generalise it all, as he is accusing of being done himself. Each and every man or woman that has done this heinous crimes are atrocious and deserve the highest punishment equally. But please can we stop shouting from the roof tops about every little racist issue that we can bring up and flog everyone with, it really does no favours at all, just live life in the community within and deal with single issues not make such a victim culture at every available opportunity, this merely encourages racism not prevent it.23 July, 2012 at 1:36 pm #504362Poli you have completely missed the point of the article.
23 July, 2012 at 1:39 pm #504363no i havent jen, i agree with the point he made the media chose to sensationalise the one incident but not the ones not reported done by white men, i agreed with that point and agree its wrong, if you read what i wrote.
23 July, 2012 at 1:55 pm #504364You agree with the point and then dismiss it by making the colour of the author and the fact that he has been a victim of racism an issue to then say that the point doesn’t really need making and it’s journalism to wave the victim flag…hence proving that you have missed the point, reinforced throughout where you think it’s all about “shouting from the rooftops about every little racist issue”.
You have completely missed the point.
23 July, 2012 at 2:03 pm #504365nope not missed the point just fed up hearing the same points time and time again.
Believe me articles like that do nothing to help the situation of racism at all, just aggravates it, for me anyway. I agree totally with his point but it needs addressing in the proper way not by a media driven circus that he is complaining about in the first place… (fair enough by this thread alone he has succeeded in getting people talk about it, but forget talking about it go and do something about it, complain to the media complaints people that he isnt getting the full news in a fair and proper and equal manner not start another controversary based on skin colour.
People of non white skin colour want to be seen as everyone else… and i totally agree with that, so stop bringing it up at every available opportunity, which i believe he has done.
And yes i agree with my point just because i don’t agree with the how or why doesnt mean i don’t agree with the issue he raises, just the fact he felt he needed to raise it at all.
Exactly the same in the rooms, arguing and fighting raising old issues repeating old abuse, using it to just have ago, people want to feel a victim, thats what gets my goat, so no i get the point but off the back of it raised my own -
