ToyFoolDog, are you as ugly as you sound?
. . . why criticise the artist because of the purchaser ?
I didn’t. I said the “painting” is crap and it is.

Are you in the doghouse with Flipper? Is that why you’re posting crap on these boards?
17 November, 2012 at 7:03 am #515380I’ve seen some of the block paintings, they’re huge and really can’t be assessed just from a postage sized image on a screen.
In the context the impact on me was profound. It helped that I was with someone who explained something about their original context and meaning.
Interesting comments about Toybulldog, Always fascinating to see apparently age old conflicts played out here. Granted I’ve met Flipper and her absence would probably leave me a bit discomfited if I was used to her being around. Not sure how it would affect my views on art.
Not sure how his non-homosexuality was verified or what the virtues are of stiff wrists, but props to Terry for trying it on.
Not sure why being called homosexual is a smear unless you’re very bad at being homosexual. (I used to be a practising homosexual, but now I’m good at it, I just keep my hand in)
Anyway, there’s art and there’s the art business.
Next time your 7 year old creates a huge canvas painting, make sure you’re holding the ladder steady and and find out they got the money for the canvas.
Rothko’s block works actually made sense to me up close, explained and presented in what I presume was an appropriate context, although they were not in any of the large restaurants for which I understand they were created.
Would I spend millions on it? Dunno, never had millions to spend on anything, so they’re not after impressing me anyway. When millions are spent on art, cars or property, it’s about investment value, so it’s all illusory anyway.

Hogwash. It was painted with one of these;

If an identical painting was painted with a brush, you’d like it?

A painting by abstract artist Mark Rothko has fetched $75.1 million (£47.2m) at an auction in New York.
Rothko’s No 1 (Royal Red and Blue), described by Sotheby’s as “a seminal, large-scale masterpiece”, was the subject of a heated bidding war.
What do you think?
I quite like it …
The price tag ? Well that’s what is ridiculous !
Well you did ask …..
