I went to pay a cheque in at my local Halifax today and when I got the book back I noticed there’d been a correction printed in it. Last time I paid a cheque in, for over £1700, it had been entered as a withdrawal. Although I usually check my book after it’s handed back I obviously didn’t look too closely last time (Oct 2007). So for 2 months my account was £3500 down, since the cheque should have been added rather than subtracted.
Anyway, it looks like the correction was automatic and all seems in order. Stangely, the person behind the counter didn’t mention the correction at all, just handed me the book with a smile!I am prepared to name and shame Halifax for this error because it’s in my account book in black and white – absolute proof that I’m telling the truth.
So when the banks say they don’t make simple mistakes, it’s not true!

definately. No matter how puny the amount. The thing with banks is if you dont ask they wont give.
26 January, 2008 at 7:29 pm #307164This is my view and not the view of the board but i think Halifax are pr1cks ! send me a letter to say they are going to charge me £10 for being over drawn so i put the £10 pound in so im not over drawn the following month .but then find out when my statement come’s in that they charge me £38 instead ! Which made me over drawn again ! Butt shagging c0ck monkeys the lot of em

If youve had loads sue them. And take what they offer to settle before the big test case finishes.
26 January, 2008 at 8:33 pm #307166or you could just ensure your account doesnt become overdrawn, and that way you wont be billed…just a thought

The figures were rough – the actual ones were £1770 and £3540, I think!
I wondered about the interest – I’ll check up about that.
