Following on from the recent news stories that Kylie was misdiagnosed by the first doctor she saw, and when asked for a second opinion was found to have cancer, is this a common occurrence?? Have any of you had second opinions which have contradicted the advice of a previous doctor?
I’m not referring to cancer in particular, any medical problems..
9 April, 2008 at 7:37 pm #324561Yes i was misdiagnosed and went for tests…and more tests. I’m not elaborating what it is as i’m still having these tests but i have pressured the doctors to have a re think and it was worth it.
I’m now being treated for one thing… now we wait for the rest.
Having the school holidays means i can pester the doctor and have more time to be examined or have tests done etc. I just never noticed or had the time before to sort it all out (more like sweeping under the rug… :- la la)
Well all i can say is just dont take no for an answer, you are always entitled to a second opinion.
9 April, 2008 at 8:01 pm #324562Yes my father was misdiagnosed twice in the 2 years before he died once being a strained tendon in his chest, the other basically said was a fluid build up around his heart that sorted itself while in hospital for a week and kicked him out again, where in fact it was mesothelioma an asbestos related cancer… big difference huh they eventually managed to confirm it 10 weeks before he died.
Thing was we all knew it was more than they said, especially him, he even knew that he would die before his aunt was able to get down to see him even though the docs gave him a good year, short year 10 weeks ,and he was right, so whatever u do if u have a gut feeling believe it keep on at them u know ur body better than any doctor or machine.9 April, 2008 at 8:56 pm #324563I was misdiagnosed when I was a child. They told my mum I had Leukemia. I have actually got steven johnsons syndrome, so far off the mark! I didn’t get properly diagnosed until I was 30.
Also, I was told for years I had eczema, it’s actually Ichthyosis
9 April, 2008 at 9:22 pm #324564I was told i pulled a muscle in my back and after 12 months and three doctors I had a MRI scan and found out I had two burst disc’s and three crumbling vertebra.
