2:20pm, Friday March 14
Shannon Matthews, the nine-year-old schoolgirl who had been missing from her home for almost a month, has been found alive, according to reports.
The girl vanished on February 19 following a school trip to a swimming pool, sparking the biggest manhunt since the search for the Yorkshire Ripper.
Police are believed to have found the girl in the Batley area of West Yorkshire, but they have yet to publicly confirm the reports.
Shannon’s mother maintained throughout the search that she believed Shannon had been taken by someone who knew her.
More than 300 police officers were involved in the search for Shannon – and police had previously said they did not expect to find the girl alive.
Unconfirmed media reports suggested Shannon had been found under her grandparents’ bed in their home at Lidgate Gardens, Batley Carr.
