I want to get my daughter a laptop for Christmas, BUT, I don,t want it to have vista on it. I,ve seen some on ebay with xp home and xp pro at really cheap prices. Can you buy a new laptop with xp on it these days or do they all have vista?

That’s a good point Bat, it appears that you can still buy them with XP on, but the spec’s are not that high as of the latest laptops. I think they want to force everyone to use Vista.
Not an ideal situation, but you could buy a laptop with Vista on and then put XP on it.
I did find some laptops still that you can buy with XP on though.28 October, 2007 at 2:08 pm #292252I remember when Windows 95 come in, people where moaning about it too.
I don’t know why people have a problem with vista; we are all going to be using it before long.
Windows vista is part of the new generation of computing. Soon such things has typing text and using a mouse will be gone, its all going “voice active” in the next 5 years.
On the on the other hand, most laptops only last about 18 months, there always under power and are easy damaged.
It depends on your daughters’ age and how much you are willing to pay for a good laptop.
The best ones are the Toshiba.
Has for buying a laptop and just replacing windows vista, well I am sure that is not possible.
Most laptops have funny hardware set-ups and once you have formatted it, and then replaced the operating system, things like graphics cards and touch pads will stop working.
You will have to face it, if you buying a new computer, you have to buy windows vista too.
But like windows vista.
28 October, 2007 at 2:54 pm #292253If you buy a Dell computer you can specify what operating System is installed on it. I have just purchased a PC for a client and specified XP Pro – at the same price as the terrible Vista.
If you HAVE to go for Vista – wait for SP1 to be released ….. then wait for all the complaints and Hotfixes to be released to make it work …… then wait for all the software writers to modify their stuff to work with Vista ….. then just wait !!!
Or buy XP !!!!!
29 October, 2007 at 2:28 am #292254whats wrong with vista? everyone seems to want to avoid it,serious question btw !
29 October, 2007 at 10:38 am #292255It’s a system resource hogger, many software applications don’t work with it, its got security problems like a bucket of water with holes in it, it’s just generally a nightmare.
29 October, 2007 at 8:44 pm #292256its getting better though, with the updates seems to be more stable on my machine, i’ll probably stick to xp till xmas though, then think about vista early next year…
