The recent shootings and other recreational killings by teenagers seem, in turn, to plumb new depths.

Several ‘enough is enough’ turning points have been passed as shootings continue. So I was wondering where it might all end. I imagined the horrific thought or a 6-year-old getting hold of a gun by mistake and going round shooting people. Or possibly a threatening, gun wielding child being shot dead by police only for it to be discovered that the gun was a replica. Then the latter nearly happened in my home town when a gang of boys went round threatening people on their housing estate with ball-bearing guns. Armed police were called in, so it was only one step away from the unthinkable.

We are a long way off the USA crazy gun culture, so i dont think we need to worry just yet.

The USA has a more serious gun crime problem because it has 300+ million people and anyone is allowed to own a gun. People sometimes quote Switzerland as a ‘well-behaved’ gun owning population but a few years ago there was a gun rampage massacre there too.

The more guns there are, the greater the chances of some of them falling into the hands of nutters, gangs or even secret underground paramilitary groups. The ultimate scenario, taken to absurd conclusion, is things like gun battles between fanatical BMW and Mercedes owners or Tesco and ASDA shoppers.
