I have Internet Explorer 6, Service Pack 1 on my PC thanks to some duff advice from microsoft help. I’ve been in touch with them but it’s like running round in circles.
My problem is that I can’t update to Service Pack 2 either from the update website or even from disk. The error message I get is ‘Access Denied’ I do have full administrator permissions on my computer so haven’t a clue why it’s not letting me or what I can do about it.
Any ideas?

6 September, 2007 at 4:57 pm #286415crikey service pack 1, it would be just so much easier to get another version of windows more upto date. If you do have admin powers on the system, then it is rather bizarre it is denying acess.
You could always try formatting as a last resort and then trying again.6 September, 2007 at 4:59 pm #286416@dead_on_arrvial wrote:

I would imagine he would not be able to do this, as he wont have the permissions to do it.
But no harm in trying, you can get SP2 here

http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.htmlXP Service Pack 1 doesn’t appear under my ‘Add/Remove’ list so wouldn’t know how to remove it – anyway it was being informed that I could uninstall and reinstall that got me in this mess!
I’ll try that patch, Anita.

Sorry about this but I am a wee bit confused.
Internet Explorer version 6.0 doesn’t (to my knowledge) have a Service Pack anything neither SP1 nor SP2.
Windows XP (Home or Pro) does have a Service Pack 2 (SP2) which was released yonks ago and should have been installed onto your computer last year at least.
Before going for a full re-format etc etc ….. could you just clarify EXACTLY what Operating System you have on your PC, whether you have updated it regularly (monthly) using the MS Windows update facility, and whether you are actually trying to instal Internet Explorer version 7.0 as an upgrade from version 6.0?????
6 September, 2007 at 10:50 pm #286421Isnt vista releasing sp2 now? Apparantly they skipped sp1 for some reason.
Is it that?

No it sure isn’t Vista … and I think that they are only relasing SP1 shortly.
Windows XP (Home or Pro version) has an SP2 release but not an SP1 (at least not that I’m aware of).
I am guessing that Johnboy will tell us he has Windows XP as his operating system but his post was really confusing. If he has XP Pro I might be able to figure out a way that he can get into the Security controls and alter his user status. If he has XP Home then he is stuffed.
