Have they ever been popular with anyone except the hangers-on who think they might get their picture in the paper? Can’t say I disagree but we’ll undoubtedly get the ‘We’re good parents. Remember, we have three children and we’re only missing one’ speech.
Or words to that effect anyway.
9 August, 2007 at 2:20 pm #282111Her parents left Maddie alone in the apartment. Maddie is now gone, probably dead.
They will never catch the killer. It’s the parents fault she is gone. The solution is simple. Prosecute the parents, full stop.
I have NO sympathy for that evil b*stard mother, and her tears mean nothing to me!
Hang her I say!
9 August, 2007 at 3:13 pm #282112I wouldnt want to be in their shoes. I would have committed suicide by now, I could not cope with the guilt. Surely nobody could?

Personally John, I don’t think iv’e seen tears from either one of them,,,,not that tears ever help such a situation, but a normal reaction all the same.
I’m sorry if it’s not a popular conception, but NO they shouldn’t have left their children alone. They were on holiday fgs, what’s so wrong in having them with you, if they’re tired put them in their buggys, kids will sleep anywhere!!
The one who’s paying, or has paid, the ultimate price, is that child, bless her!!
9 August, 2007 at 4:26 pm #282114It’s all very well to blame parents for leaving child alone – but how many parents leave their children for a minute or two – long enough for them to walk outside under a car?
What if the parents had been at home and let a child play outside unsupervised and they were kidnapped? Would that have aroused so much condemnation? It boils down to the same thing.Parents know that small children (and not so small) can come to harm in a very short space of time if left unsupervised. I’m talking mainly about accidents but the same applies to kidnapping etc. At the local primary school there were 2 cases of a stranger trying to snatch a child from outside the school in broad daylight a few years ago. I think it was even the same description of suspect both times.
If there is any negligence involved in this case, it is overshadowed by the kidnapping and whatever else might have happened – that is the real tragedy and crime.
Presumably everyone who could have been involved in any crime in this case needs to be eliminated by the enquiry but spouting hatred towards the parents at this stage is just cruel and nasty.
I’m not religious, but the saying ‘there but for the grace of God go I’ is a profound one. Smiley might never be in a position of leaving a child alone in a house, but a split second of carelessness or inattention some time, perhaps while driving, might result in someone’s death.

You can justify the McCanns all you like B55, and your just as entitled to your opinion as anyone else is. We all know tho, that had that happened in this country, those parents would be facing charges of neglect,,,,,,,,,,,,,is that why theyre staying in portugal perhaps,,,,,,,or at least one of the reasons!

9 August, 2007 at 5:31 pm #282116Er…. in case anybody hasn’t spotted it yet …. both the McCanns are doctors (of medecine). If one of tyheir patients did this then they would HAVE to report it to the social services.
Mrs McCann KNOWS that what she did was totally and utterly wrong and she should have her other two children taken away from her befotre she puts her own pleasures in front of their safety and well being….. as she did with Maddie
9 August, 2007 at 6:18 pm #282117When you see them walking down the streets, arm in arm, smileing at the camera’s. Do you see a couple grieving for their daughter, cos I sure as don’t
10 August, 2007 at 9:00 am #282118The parents say that what they did was equivalent to leaving a child asleep in the house while they were in a large garden.
In this country I believe it is illegal to leave a child alone in the house but it is not illegal to let a child wander the streets alone (which is probably more risky). How many people let children only a year or two older than Madeleine walk to and from school on their own?
An analogy: – You lend your car to a relation. Your car is in good condition. They drive through town in a safe manner within the speed limit. Suddenly a car coming the other way pulls out to overtake recklessly, forcing your friend to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision. The cars do not collide but your car slews across the road and knocks down and kills a pedestrian. In the investigation it was found that one of the front tyres on your car was under inflated. But you had checked the tyres the day before and they were all OK. The police cannot find any witnesses to corroborate your friend’s claim that there was a car overtaking dangerously. Who was to blame for the accident? You? Your friend? The alleged overtaking driver? The tyre company?
Some of the people posting here should be ashamed of the nasty, hateful (and possibly libellous) poisoned pen remarks they have posted. Stop crying your crocodile tears just so you can get off on kicking people when they are down.
