This totally freaked me out…
“CNN) — A girl’s feet were cut off Thursday when a free-fall thrill ride malfunctioned at the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Amusement Park in Louisville, Kentucky, police said.
A cord wrapped around the 16-year-old’s feet and severed them at her ankles while she was on the “Superman Tower of Power,” a police dispatcher said. The girl was taken to a local hospital.
An unidentified witness told CNN affiliate WLKY she saw a cable on the ride snap. The girl’s feet were completely amputated just below the ankle Thursday afternoon while riding the Superman Tower of Power.
Her feet were recovered by Six Flags staff and were sent to the hospital with her, McLean said.”Do you think they could attach them, like a finger? I hope so poor girl, I feel so bad for her.
24 June, 2007 at 9:18 am #274355I wonder if they were obliged to refund her entrance fee?
Actually not such a silly question. As this happened in America, she will doubtless be doorstepped by armies of ”no win no fee” lawyers simply gagging to sue the ride operators for absolutely billions of $’s …. so if the fairground operators give her a refund it will be taken as an admission of liability.
Then the lawyers that don’t get to represent her against the fairground can sue her parents instead for letting her go in the first place.
Those lawyers still left can sue the State that granted a licence to the fairground …. then the manufacturers of the ride …. I’ll bet they can even sue the hot dog vendors for cruelty to dogs.
24 June, 2007 at 10:16 am #274356she should also be sued for causing the onlookers the trauma of having two feet suddenly land on them…………………..

That made me chuckle.
Omg Pats that is something that never even occurred to me!
27 June, 2007 at 6:51 am #274358“Authorities and the hospital have declined to say whether her feet were reattached. The statement included a plea for privacy for the girl’s family, and the family has instructed the hospital not to comment further.”
It also said she is in stable condition.

A couple whose teenage daughter had her feet severed on a Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom ride sued the park on Thursday, saying it was negligent in maintaining and operating the ride.
The lawsuit, which also alleges negligence in inspecting and testing the ride, asks for a temporary injunction to prevent the park from altering or destroying the ride and a cable that investigators believe cut off the girl’s feet.
Randall and Monique Lasitter, of Louisville, filed the lawsuit on behalf of 13-year-old Kaitlyn Lasitter, who remained hospitalized Thursday in good condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., The Courier-Journal reported.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. It claims that Kaitlyn has suffered permanent injury and severe emotional pain and that her ability to earn money has been impaired.
Doctors at Vanderbilt reattached Kaitlyn’s right foot after the June 21 accident but couldn’t save the left.
Carolyn McLean, a spokeswoman for the theme park, declined comment Thursday night and said she hadn’t seen the lawsuit. The Lasitters said through a Vanderbilt spokesman that they had no comment.

17 July, 2007 at 1:31 pm #274360Yup, very sadly I was right ….. but no skill involved, it was entirely predictable.
The ‘no win – no fee’ attorneys acting for the girl’s parents (on behalf of the girl herself as she is too young to sue personally) will sue the park for literally millions of dollars.
The theme park won’t want to contest this in Court and so their insurers will make an offer of settlement – probably around 25% of the amount claimed. Whatever the girl is awarded, her greedy lawyers will take around half. She might end up with a few hundred thousand and crippled for life.
The point is that if you go to a theme park and have a ”thrill ride” you should accept that it isn’t totally risk free. Were the owners of the park REALLY negligent or was this just an awful accident ….. but an accident nevertheless???
18 July, 2007 at 10:51 am #274361at Loudon Castle theme park up here think it was yesterday or day before but was reported a guy whom worked there was fixing someing on the rollarcoaster and he feel to his death infront of a packed park …… i was actually thinkin of takin the kids to this park but after the stories ive read aboot what mite happen… ill pass….
THEME PARK RIDE TRAGEDY
A THEME park worker who plunged 80ft from a rollercoaster has died.Mark Blackwood, 18, of Kilmarnock suffered “very serious injuries” when he fell on Sunday while carrying out repairs at Loudon Castle.
He was rushed ten miles to Crosshouse Hospital from the park at Galston, Ayrshire, but died yesterday.
Eyewitness Julie Scalabrini, 40, said: “It looked as if the ride had got stuck and he went at the back to push it.
“But he didn’t let go of the car when it started to move again and next thing we knew he was thrown off the rollercoaster. It was horrible.”
A report on Mark’s death will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
A probe has also been launched by health and safety chiefs.
Bosses at the park say they are “devastated” by the death.
Loudoun Castle gets around 170,000 visitors a year since opening in 1995.
The park employs 200 people.
18 July, 2007 at 3:34 pm #274362Well it was quite clearly entirely his own fault Mary …. for forgetting to let go !!!
Still I guess his ”grieving realtives” will sue the Theme Park for millions (yet again).
