When you visit the polling booth on May 3rd, keep in mind the stories of the following i will relay for your eyes over the next 10 days.
Michael Angell, Liberal Democrat/Green councillor, was elected in 2003. He’s accused of 17 separate counts of possessing indecent photographs.
He has only been charged and has not been found guilty, but Councilour Rayner said Angell resigned from the party in November 2006.
She added: “He has been indisposed since November (2006) and he hasn’t been to any council meetings since November and is no longer a member of the Liberal Democrats.”

Miranda Grell, 28, who represents Leyton ward, today was charged with four counts of making false statements contrary to Section 106 (1) of the Representation of the People Act 1983.
The Labour councillor will appear at Waltham Forest Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 17.

This is she – http://www1.walthamforest.gov.uk/moderngov/mgUserInfo.asp?UID=686&J=1LEADING Conservative councillor Stephen Barker, was summonsed to appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on January 31. He has been charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to the execution of a will.

According to her husband, the 45-year-old mother-of-two could not move her arm for several hours after the incident and suffered sleepless nights as a result of the pain. He said: “From my point of view this is completely unacceptable. My wife deals with the public on these matters and this sort of behaviour has never occurred before. You would not expect a person in his position to behave in this appalling fashion.”
The woman, who asked not to be named, described her ordeal as a frightening and painful incident, adding: “My first reactions were shock, anger and disbelief. I didn’t say anything that would justify that attack. I’ve still got a frozen shoulder six weeks later. It was a very distressing experience, but the valuation office has been very supportive.”

23 April, 2007 at 10:36 am #268409New Labour Councillour Hussain Akhtar who ‘pleaded poverty’ in court owns a £500,000 Victorian home, he was accused by a judge of ‘concocting a story’ to avoid hygiene charges at his food shop, has now been heavily criticised by councillors. In November, when he was fined £3,500 with £5,000 costs after admitting two breaches of hygiene regulations, the court was told. His solicitor told the court unwittingly: “As you will appreciate he is not a wealthy man. At the moment any money he has is generated from his overdraft.” But Land Registry documents show that in June 2003 the Shear Brow councillor and his wife Tahzeem paid £365,000 for the large semi-detached house in a sought-after location within a Conservation Area, with a mortgage from the National Westminster Bank. Coun Akhtar suspended himself from the Labour Party after the hygiene case but was re-admitted into the party’s ranks on Blackburn with Darwen Council.
http://www.asianimage.co.uk/news/latest/display.var.1250173.0.councillor_owns_500_00_house.phpA New Labour councillor has been charged with a string of sexual offences – but has vowed to remain in public life. Neil Redrup faces a court battle over allegations he set up spy cameras inside his home. Yesterday he was ordered to Gosport Police Station where officers charged him with four counts of voyeurism, one of indecent assault and one of gross indecency.
He refused to comment on the allegations, but revealed he would not quit. ‘Not yet, not until I’ve been convicted,’ he said. ‘I’m not giving any comment at all yet.’He will only be thrown off the council if he loses his seat and is sent to prison.
The MoD communications worker, from Alver Road, Gosport, was suspended from the Labour group immediately after his arrest.

23 April, 2007 at 5:42 pm #268411Sad to admit but I’m behind PB on this one….Posting serious threads is all well and good…but you’re trying to gain an unfair advantage by omitting the state of the BNP party..who we all know is built on thuggery and hatred….. I totally admit to despising idle social security scrounging immigrants…sadly I look at a good few of our own and see the same….Nevertheless…. a one sided argument is both unacceptable AND bigoted….
(wow sanity from baileez ???)
24 April, 2007 at 11:51 am #268412Was it one sided when PB, ONLY gave us BNP stories? I got NO response after asking for old gang stories. PB’s one sided claims are being evened up, thats fair, and thats what we all like, fairness.
A Conservative frontbench MP Greg Barker had separated from his wife when his gay relationship became public. Conservative party member Angela Sheppard, said she would like him to do “the honourable thing” and resign. “I think he’s embarrassed the party and he’s acted dishonourably, and I have no faith now in his judgement or integrity,”.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/southern_counties/6182416.stmTwo Liberal Democrat councillors from Lancashire have been jailed for trying to rig a local election. Manzur Hussain, 58, and Mozaquir Ali, 44, defrauded dozens of voters during the 2004 local government elections. The men, who were sitting on Burnley Council at the time, collected signed proxy vote forms door-to-door and filled them in themselves. At Preston Crown Court they were each sentenced to 18 months for falsifying postal proxy votes. Both councillors were arrested in October 2004. The judge went on to say the councillors had “exploited a loophole” in which the law did not require proxy vote applicants to complete the form themselves. He urged the Electoral Commission and the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs to close the loophole. Both men were convicted of conspiracy to defraud Burnley Council’s returning officer following a three-week trial at Preston Crown Court last month.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lancashire/6178224.stmA Liberal democrat councillor was jailed for sexually abusing two schoolgirls. More than two months into a five-year prison sentence, Bob Hargreaves has officially quit his seat on Bradford Council. The 62-year-old was locked up earlier this year following a ten-day trial where he was found guilty of eight of the 13 charges he faced, including one of attempted rape. Even before he was jailed, Council bosses took the unusual step of banning Hargreaves from all Council buildings, including City Hall, sports centres, schools, swimming pools and libraries. He was also expelled from the Liberal Democrats group after he was found guilty of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and three counts of indecency with a child at the trial at Bradford Crown Court.
The jury was told that Hargreaves molested the two girls in the back of a butcher’s shop in the early 1990s and would give the girls £3 after touching them. One of Hargreaves’ victims, now in her mid 20s and whose identity is protected by law, said he should have been forced to quit public office as soon as he was convicted. She said: “I am disgusted that he has been allowed to keep his job for so long. He should have been stripped of it as soon as he was found guilty. Councillors are supposed to be people of respect, those with power in their community. To have someone like that in the role makes a mockery of the whole title.”

So come on then … let’s have some stories about the BNP Councillor’s wrong doings, along the same lines as all the others that you have posted so far.
24 April, 2007 at 9:22 pm #268414January 2007
British ethnic minorities are constantly told by politicians and the media that this is a tolerant country and that if people want to come here they should fit in with those values. Sure, this is a tolerant country, but what about the intolerance of ‘the natives’? What should be done about them? I only ask because:
British National Party (BNP) councillor David Enderby has so far refused to step down as a councillor in Redditch, in the west Midlands, despite his conviction for assault yesterday.
…
Enderby has shown no sign of giving up his seat, and the thousands of pounds of taxpayers money he pockets as a result. He is the second BNP councillor to be found guilty of violence recently. Kevin Hughes, Enderby’s agent in the elections, was sentenced to three months in prison for racially aggravated common assault last June.
…
Only two weeks ago the BNP Parliamentary candidate for Hull, Brian Wainwright, was found guilty after a campaign of hate mail against the local mosque, a Muslim councillor and a local anti-fascist activist.
…
In the same week a BNP activist in Swindon, Mark Bulman, who has used the pseudonym Bullock, was sentenced to five years after attempting to firebomb a local mosque using a BNP leaflet as a fuse.6th October, 2006
BNP members caught with “record haul” of explosive chemicals
by Leon at 5:02 pmRobert Cottage (49), of Talbot Street, Colne, and David Bolus Jackson (62), of Trent Road, Nelson, made separate appearances before the court charged with being in possession of an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose. The offences are under the Explosive Substances Act 1883.
Both men were remanded in custody to appear at Burnley Crown Court on October 23rd. Cottage was arrested at his home on Thursday, while retired dentist Jackson was arrested in the Lancaster area on Friday, the same day as he left a dental practice in Grange-over-Sands.
The 22 chemical components recovered by police are believed to be the largest haul ever found at a house in this country.
Cottage is an ex-BNP member who stood as a candidate in the Pendle Council elections in May.
Mrs Christiana Buchanan, who appeared for the prosecution in Jackson’s case, alleged the pair had “some kind of masterplan”.
She said a search of Jackson’s home had uncovered rocket launchers, chemicals, BNP literature and a nuclear biological suit. [Via Pendle Today]

Deport BNP council tax cheats!
by Sunny at 10:00 pmThree of the BNP’s new councillors in Barking and Dagenham have been taken to court for owing thousands of pounds in rent and council tax.
The local authority has secured county court judgements against two, a third is being threatened with bailiffs, and a fourth is involved in a council probe into a potential £10,000 housing benefit fraud.
Worrying isn’t it PB
 :?
25 April, 2007 at 12:59 am #268415Shame this thread had to be hi-jacked, but its a democracy, free speech is the aim. PB, when ive evened things up, i promise to tell stories of BNP candidates.
Another story about the New Labour councillor Miranda Grell, who has said she totally refutes charges that she made false statements about the personal life of her gay opponent.
Miranda Grell, 28, won a formerly safe Lib Dem seat on Waltham Forest council in last May’s elections. Her opponent Barry Smith is now at the centre of a prosecution being brought against Ms Grell. She has been charged with “making a false statement of fact about Mr Smith’s personal character or conduct,” contrary to election law. Ms Grell is to appear at Waltham Forest Magistrates Court on Tuesday to answer charges under the Representation of the People Act 1983.
It is understood that the CPS have witnesses who claim Ms Grell made allegations about Mr Smith’s sexuality. The Evening Standard newspaper quotes sources who say it was wrongly alleged that Mr Smith is a paedophile.
Ms Grell, who works in City Hall as a researcher for London’s Deputy Mayor Nicky Gavron, has a strong support base in the Labour party, and is viewed as a high-flyer.
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-4126.htmlConservative councillor Jezz Baker has been arrested by police over allegations of corruption, it has been revealed. Jezz Baker, who is a member of the city’s planning committee, was arrested on Tuesday by detectives investigating a complaint by a member of the public. Mr Baker, of East Cosham, is the Conservative councillor for Hilsea. Police would only confirm that a 45-year-old man had been arrested by police investigating an allegation of corruption in public office.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/6589353.stmLIBERAL Democrat councillor Sera Kentman has been expelled from the party and is at the centre of a police investigation. Cllr Sera Kentman, who has represented Whitefoot ward in Lewisham since last May, was axed after breaching rules, which included failing to disclose her debts as a councillor. Ms Kentman is an undischarged bankrupt, who may have stood illegally at last May’s elections. Under Section 80 of the Local Goverment Act 1972, no-one can stand in an election as a councillor if they are an undischarged bankrupt.
According to Lewisham Council’s Liberal Democrat leader Mark Morris other allegations involving Ms Kentman include:
A £9,000 overpayment of housing benefit on a house she part owns.
Outstanding council tax payments back dating over a year.
Her use of a number of different names. Ms Kentman was temporarily suspended three weeks ago from the party and given time to provide information on her debts and proof of her identity.
But on March 8, at the Civic Suite, Catford, she failed to provide the group with any evidence to clarify her status.
Mr Morris said: “We have given her time to come to meetings and provide us with information. She has not done anything. We have a rule book and she has breached it. We had no choice but to expel her from the group. She has been evasive to her own fellow councillors and is not fit to be a Liberal Democrat councillor or any other councillor of a political party.”
Insolvency practitioner Keith Stevens, who dealt with the case, confirmed a Julia Kibris, one of the other names used by Cllr Kentman, was made bankrupt in 2004 and is still an undischarged bankrupt. Usually when people declare themselves bankrupt they are automatically discharged from their debts after a year. But Mr Stevens has confirmed this one year rule does not apply to Cllr Kentman because she has failed to comply with the conditions of a court order made in April 2004.
The Individual Insolvency Register lists Sera Kentman and her alternative names, Julia Kibris, Hulya Kibris, Feliz Guner, and Hulya Guner. Mr Stevens confirmed that a photograph he saw of Julia Kibris was the same as the photo listed under the name of Sera Kentman on Lewisham Council’s website.
A council spokesman said: “We can confirm we referred Cllr Kentman to the Met Police some time ago.
