Friday nights

So, ever since I moved out, I’ve been on this body modification kick. First it was stretching the ears, and then the septum ring.. and now this. It all started as a joke between my roommate and I. There’s four of us in the apartment, she and I have piercings, whereas the other two girls are foreign. Although they love us to death, they aren’t too fond of the whole piercing/body modification scene. (Oh, but we are teaching them well..) As a joke one night, we began tossing around ideas for our next holes. From genitals, to industrials, to anti-eyebrows to nipples, which I considered fleetingly and then thought nothing else of it.

Fast forward two weeks to the day after Christmas. Hanging out with a friend of mine in my hometown, we were flipping through a Creative Loafing and saw several ads for shops who were having sales on piercings. On one page a shop was advertising both nipples done for fifty dollars.. and so it began.

It started out really as a joke, and then I realized that I really wanted to do this. I made Laura ride with me to Atlanta to see if Gigi (who had done my septum) was working. We arrived five minutes after the shop had closed.. even though I was slightly grateful because I was going to wimp out, I was also a little sad, further reinforcement to the fact that I truly wanted to do this. So, with money burning a hole in my pocket, we drove down to Stockbridge to visit Addictive Arts.

Adam, the piercer there, had done my eyebrow twice before with not a problem. I had to take the piercings out due to work and school issues, and the hole has closed up entirely without a trace. The second I walked in the shop and began talking to Adam, I was completely at ease.

Adam is a wonderful, wonderful guy. I think the biggest reason he puts me so at ease is because he looks you straight in your eye the entire time he’s talking to you, and that definitely helps me in trusting someone. So after the paperwork, a decision on jewelry, and me deciding to get both done at once because I knew if I only did one, the 2nd one would be lonely for a long, long time.. and Adam going back to wash up and get everything prepared.. my time came!

Laura stayed out in the lobby, and when I went back to Adam’s room, he shut the door, and told me I could put my shirt and bra on the chair next to the bench. I just sorta stood there for a minute and stared blankly before I realized what he had said and decided that it was now or never!

After cleaning my nipples, marking them, and giving me the chance to let him know that I was content with the placement, I laid on the bench. Adam then put on the clamps and made sure that they didn’t cause any pain. The right side was done first, and with a deep breath in and a long exhale, the needle slide through without a problem.

I remember thinking to myself, “that’s it?!” When the needle came out and the jewelry went in, now that was the painful part for me. After making sure I was doing okay, and even chatting with me a little about septum piercings (I told him how I had ordered jewelry from BME and he smiled and told me “Good choice,”) we were ready for round 2. More clamping, making sure I didn’t feel pain, inhaling, and then an exhale. Although the left nipple didn’t HURT more per say, I definitely felt the pain more, but that was expected.

And before I even realized exactly what I had done, we were finished! Adam gave me the mirror and let me look at my new mod additions! I squealed with delight and told him how pretty they were. He made sure to give me the standard washing/healing procedures (antibacterial soap, sea salts, sleeping in a sports bra, etc.), gave me his card with his website and phone number so I had more than one way to get in touch with him, and then sent me on my merry, pierced way with a wonderful hug!
