A clever political stunt which has shown republicanism to have outmanoeuvered the loyalists or a genuine desire for a political solution to a turbulent past.
A move closer to a united Ireland and a dis-United Kingdom? Ireland first, then Scotland leaving just Wales and England (always had closer ties) to remain allied aka Serbia and Montenegro (until the little bast/ard child decides to fly the coop)

I think many of the loyalists were once Protestant Scots going back a while.
If the palestinians can gain some form of independence, East Timor can become free of Indonesian state terror, if the Berlin Wall- the symbol of the cold war for so long- can come down, if communism can die on its own sword then I know Ireland will one day be a single country again- history dictates
