New England boss Steve maclaren has axed former England captain David beckham from the England squad.

“evolution, not revolution”.
Axing becks is evolution. However, the door is not closed on david. The thing about becks is, hes more of a celebrity than a player. At this level, football is more important.
Steve has showed atleast for now, that he’s not taking any nonsense, wants hunger and desire (picking John Terry as captain show that).
“the most important people are the fans”. That might be a blag plea, but he IS right, no fans, no professional game.
“weve got great young players coming through, and i wana give them a chance”.
In the right games, at the right time, that would be the perfect way to do things. For me, you need a two team strategy, alternatively for both first team and friendly games.
11 August, 2006 at 7:30 pm #235130I like Emma when she talks about footy.
We’ll wait and see how the team performs but had Sven just dropped Beckham he would have said that it was because he was still to start pre-season training with real Madrid or some lame excuse, so well done McLaren for making his first two decisions bold ones.
As a slight aside, this might be the end for Beckham as an Internationalist but look how Lineker, Shearer and others prolonged their club careers after giving up their England places – wouldn’t surprise me to see Becks have a great couple of years with Real now.
11 August, 2006 at 7:40 pm #235131i think beckham might have to move back to england to be honest, if he wants to get back into the sign
its a good squad, about time ashton has a chance, lennon and phillps are now the future for england it seems
when i said phillips, i did’nt mean kevin phillips :)
11 August, 2006 at 8:01 pm #235132I do think Beckham is very much over rated. But find it strange he wont be in the line up now!
11 August, 2006 at 10:56 pm #235133I think Becks deserves a place in the squad, to be honest. How can Wright-Phillips be said to have earned his place over the last year or so? I reckon McLaren just wants him gone so he doesn’t loom too much over the picture, if you follow my meaning.

Wright-Phillips didn’t go to the WC you twat, but he’s still young enough to be a part of the future England set up … you really are thick on just about everything aren’t you? Get off football scummer, it’s a man’s game.
yer, its a mans game, get off!!!!!!
12 August, 2006 at 12:15 am #235135:lol: Oh good grief. He’s in the squad announced today. I don’t think he’s done enough over the last year to justify it and I pointed to the reason why I think McLaren has included him over Becks. You’re losing it, Fester. Completely obsessed.
12 August, 2006 at 12:30 am #235136You are the only one who ever claims to be an expert, Fester. I was just merrily posting an opinion, stalker boy.
12 August, 2006 at 12:42 am #235137Can you quote where I claimed the England manager gives a toss about my views? You’re going mental, Fester.
12 August, 2006 at 12:55 am #235138:lol: While we’re talking about unprovoked, read this thread again, you goon.
