Does society tend to accept older men with younger women more than young men with older women?
23 July, 2006 at 4:00 pm #232178I think each to their own.
Why does everything have to come down to socially acceptable? I think so long as you are both in the relationship for the right reasons then there is no harm in there being an age gap, who ever it be.
23 July, 2006 at 6:18 pm #232179I think age gaps shoudlnt matter. My best friend is my age, 25 and her boyfriend is 43. They are both happy and have their 2nd baby on the way. But as for younger men older women i understand what you mean about it being “accepted” like the older man younger woman, but the thing is womens and mens out look on things are different. Such as men sleeping around = GRAT. Women= slag???? Same difference in my eyes.

yes society does accept younger women with older men more……. my observation about age diffence is say i went out with a man 10 years my junior, i am 56 so say he was 46 the age difference would show in a nother 10 years wen i was 66 and he was 56 he would still be ‘in the ‘autumn’ of his life while i would be heading fast towards winter
hope that makes sense lol

Thats a good point, when i speak to my friend the only thing she worries about is when shes 50 hes clocking 70 and she is scared to lose him early into the relationship.
24 July, 2006 at 10:27 am #232182Great response all Im in a relationship with an older man and I have the same concerns with reference to the relationship ending too early due to my partners age, it worries me quite alot, because I get on so well with him we are best friends, and no amount of searching would find me the same again.
24 July, 2006 at 12:09 pm #232183I think that once both parties are responsible adults then the age gap shouldn’t matter. I read on another site about a 17 year old girl and a 35 year old man. This did make me think. At 17 you are not an adult. She should be with friends of her own age, making her mistakes etc and dealing with them. It also seems to be a touch of paedophilia. Teenagers should not be with middle aged partners. It is not healthy.
24 July, 2006 at 2:38 pm #232184I think older women are obviously more experienced – as long as you carry a travel iron – then you can iron out any wrinkles and make them nearly presentable – the other option is of course the old paper bag over the head !!
24 July, 2006 at 5:11 pm #232185One argument i have is my BEST friends boyfriend expects her to mingle with his mates but he wont with hers. I hardly know him because we have nothing at all in common, my best frind is happy so i am happy for her but he has changed her, she has aged before her time. She isnt allowed to swear or her tells her off, instead he has given her words to use like nuts, crackers, crazy and my fave of all potty! All his frineds are 40+ again i have no problem with this just i would like to know my best friends boyfriend/father of my god daughter.

I dont think these things are just age related some things sound quite controling and my relationship is nothing like that, we mostly have mutual friends, you do find that friends change when in a serious relationship regardless of age, my friend has moved in with someone her own age and I never see her anymore, I think people just get wrapped up it what they are doing day to day, they have someone else to consider not just themselves any more.
