It’s just been announced that two British warships, an aircraft carrier and an assault ship are to be sent to the middle east, probably to help evacuate British citizens from Lebanon.
The nature of the deployment indicates that force might be considered neccessary to get our people out.
That leads me to think that if these British warships go in they risk being attacked by either Israel or Hizbullah. Not an enviable position.
well Israel won’t attack them and no-one else in that region has the capability so sleep easy and don’t worry about it.
Actually, much of the population of Israel is, or is descended from, Jews driven from newly independent Arab lands after the war.
Has anyone ever noticed how the Jews all have big noses? :? Where did that come about? We all know the English have always had big heads, but is this just the evolutionary process?
Of course they have big noses…… air is free.
The danger is that our ships or vehicles transporting evacuees to our ships will be attacked by the trigger-happy Israelis. There is also the danger of our ships being mistaken for an Israeli warship.
The Israeli government is positive that it is only targetting Hizbollah and not targetting civilians. This must mean that Hizbollah was running Beirut International airport and the lighthouse near the port. The Israeli ambassador to the UN even made the extraordinary claim that civilian homes are being used as launchpads for Hizbollah rockets. The idea of katyusha rockets being launched from somebody’s living room sounds like bullsh1t to me. No doubt people will believe him though.
I think our government and other EU governments should demand a ceasefire so that our people can be evacuated safely. Israel does a lot of trade with the EU and they would listen to us if we put our foot down. Unfortunately it looks like the EU and especially Tony Blair are sucking up to America again (with the notable exception of France).
With regard to the Jews, there was a Jewish minority in Palestine for several centuries, long before the creation of Israel in the 1940s. So it’s not accurate to say that they are all european or from neighbouring Arab states. Israel has a mandate to exist but its occupation of arab land beyond israel’s borders, its detention of thousands of arab prisoners without charge and the persecution of palestinians is what causes so much friction in the region.
I don’t want to see anyone wiped out but if it came to that, I’d rather see Iran wiped out than Israel! I don’t mean the innocent civilians but their regimes and the sponsors of death they control.
I’m not Jewish, nor do I have any Jewish friends, relations or ancestors. As a militant atheist I think Judaism is just as silly a religion as Christianity or Islam. But Jews did not carry out 9/11, Jews did not bomb the London Underground or the Madrid commuter trains.
There is a conflict and in a conflict there are sides. Even if we were naive enough to side with the islamic jihadists, they would still want to kill us.

I agree they won’t make an unprovoked attack, but if they ordered the British navy to keep out and the Navy disobeyed, I could see Israel, in its current heightened state, taking steps of ‘enforcement’.

Palestinian arabs have big noses too. White South African ‘Afrikaners’ have crooked mouths, Nigerians have small ears, Russians always look like they have colds. Americans call us Brits ‘yellowteeth’, the French call us ‘les f**koffs’. There is no end to all this!!!!!
Now they’re talikng about setting up an EU peacekeeping force for the Israel / Hizbullah conflict.
I’m all for peace but an EU force would be seen as ‘enemy’ by Hizbullah and would be forced to side with Israel.
