I can’t see this being a problem since it’s your property but if you use a shotgun it might scare them off once and for all- if you pin a dead pigeon to your garden fence it should keep any others away. You can legally shoot cats and Jehovah’s Witnessess too. You are not allowed to shoot bats tho cos they are protected, unless they attack you of course when you can use ‘reasonable force’.

Send them my way once shot, I make a lovely pigeon pie.

Wasn’t there a case where a guy shot a bat in the back (because he was robbing him) and got sent to prison for it?
Or am I confusing a bat with a Jehovas Witness?

    Bats are more intelligent.

Worse! You’re thinking of a Jehovas Burglar. And he wouldn’t have died if his accomplice hadn’t refused to let him have a blood transfusion – that’s why that Tony watsisname bloke got a light sentence. He would have been in the shyte if he had shot a bat.

For discreet control of small populations of pigeons a .22 air rifle with hollow point pellets is recommended. Go for a chest shot, this will help prevent over penetration of the quarry and possible damage to surrounding property.

If you find that any of your shot birds have leg rings (indicating a Homing Pigeon Society or club) notify the appropriate organisation or a local pigeon fancier.

As much care as possible must be taken to avoid accidents.

The use of an air rifle is not suitable where adverse public reaction is suspected even though it may be the most effective method of removal.

It is against the law, in England and Wales, to fire an air rifle within 50 feet of the centre of a highway, if by doing so you cause any member of the public, using that right of way, to be injured, interrupted or endangered. This offence could be committed, for example, by someone on private property close to a road who uses an air rifle in a way which endangers people on the road.

Always bear in mind the possibility of a ricochet.
