For fifty years the government has been spending billions of our pounds to prevent drugs entering the UK. For fifty years, year on year the amount of drugs entering the UK has increased, as has the number of drug addicts.
It’s estimated that more than 60% of acquisitive crime in the UK is commited to fund a drug addiction. As long as criminals control the supply of addictive drugs, they will do everything in their power to create new addicts.
If existing addicts were given the drugs they need free of charge, the pushers would be redundant and our children would be better protected. 60% of burglary and theft would be eliminated, allowing the police to concentrate on real criminals.
Our towns and cities are ruled/terrorised by armed gangs who control the drugs trade, and the money generated helps to fund terrorist organisations overseas who in turn export their terror to the UK.
The vast majority of the four million regular drug users in the UK behave responsibly.
So how do we tackle the problem?29 May, 2006 at 2:00 am #221462You’re joking?
This bloody country can’t even give out cancer treatment to everyone who needs it, resulting in the ‘postcode lottery'(Herceptin is only one example)…so how is it going to be able to supply drugs to millions of addicts? I doubt a few less prisoners to pay for will provide enough revenue
I’d rather non-druggies received medicinal drugs that could prevent illness/save lives, and once the country gets that sorted THEN think about the self-inflicters.
But overall Owen…I do see what you are getting at :?

It’s estimated there are 100,000 addicts in the UK. Eight burglaries/theft from cars each equals 800,000 crimes for the overstretched police to investigate.Give the addicts the drugs or else allow a 100,000 probable criminals to roam the streets in the full knowledge that they have to rob or steal to buy the drugs they’re addicted to.
And while all that’s going on, the drug pushers are doing everything in their power to find more vulnerable young people to sell their addictive drugs to.
29 May, 2006 at 2:17 am #221464But if the country starts providing drugs to all the addicts, and there’s less crime, and peraps a reduction in the number of deaths……
…..then how are we going to persuade the next generation that drugs are a bad idea?? Won’t they get the impression that ‘everything’s okay, now I can take what I want’ :?
Drugs could become completely legal…but I STILL won’t want my kids taking them. :(

Under the present system there are multi million pound drug gangs who have a vested interest in creating new addicts.
Removing these people from the drugs chain must be our priority. By giving addictive drugs to existing addicts we do remove the pusher.
29 May, 2006 at 2:38 am #221466Kids are easily influenced.
If it’s not a drug pusher persuading them, then it will be the sight of a family member taking them and giving the impression that it’s acceptable.
And what about the kids who die every year by accidentaly taking a parent’s drugs??? A reduction in crime won’t stop that happening will it?
29 May, 2006 at 2:41 am #221467The only way I would be in favour of free drugs would be if it was with the intent of getting the person away from a dealer, but with a medical programme where they are slowly weaned off thhe drug.
Giving freebies for recreational purposes – No Way!!

All of these things happen now. I’m advocating change.

wot Squeezy sed, with the proviso that if they cannot be weaned off drugs, we continue to supply them free of charge.
If you want to smoke weed/hash and drop ‘E’s, you pay up, just like the lager louts have to pay up. 8)
29 May, 2006 at 9:31 am #221469Instead of putting resources into giving freebies for drug users – which incidentally will increase the number of drug users in my opinion ; we should channel the money into a “drug busting” sas type force – with unlimited powers . Build some large “firing sqaud” walls – and gallows in every town . Anyone found pushing , selling dealing etc – would have the choice – firing squad -or gallows
