Saw this on the news earlier…really upset me.

Probe after baby’s body found in river
    5.45PM, Tue May 23 2006

The discovery of a newborn baby’s body in a river has sparked a hunt for the mother and an unlawful killing probe.

The baby girl, named Lilly by police, was in shallow water in the River Alne at Aston Cantlow, near Stratford, Warwickshire. She had suffered a fractured skull and collarbone.

Four bloodstained tea towels found inside a Tesco carrier bag which was concealed inside a Mothercare bag, as well as a pair of women’s pyjama bottoms were recovered from the scene.

Police say medical tests reveal the injuries are not consistent with a difficult childbirth.

Warwickshire Police have launched an investigation after concluding death was as a result of unlawful killing.

Detective Chief Inspector Adrian Pearson said officers are still attempting to trace the mother of the baby, whose body was found at Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire, on May 11.

“Baby Lilly has a family, she has a mum, a dad, grandparents, brothers and sisters perhaps,” the officer said.

“We need to know her background and how she came to lose her life in such tragic circumstances.”

How can anyone allow this to hapen to a child? I know people will say ‘what about the mother’s state of mind’ but this is more than just dumping an unwanted baby….

    Cas

I saw this too Squeezy, made me feel physically sick :(

I don’t want to know about the mothers ‘state of mind’, there’s just no excuse, well not for me anyway. I agree with Ruby, it wasn’t necessary, not when it could have just been left outside of a hospital or even someones front door, ring the doorbell and walk away. Someone would have looked after it. To dump a child is one thing, to cause it the injuries it sustained is despicable beyond belief. Whatever state of mind she may have been in, she either did this, or allowed it to happen.

I’d say she deserves everything she gets, but then I spose the do-gooders will be out in force bleating that she needs help!!, yea she needs help alright, not the kind they’re thinking of tho. :(

I agree Squeezy, people are quick to say “mothers state of mind” well after my first daughter i had baby blues quite bad for a very good reason which i wont go into. But not once could i ever hurt my baby in a million years. This is just sick and so awful i was nearly crying when i heard as i really have no idea how people can do it.

You all assume that it was the mother that did this. Why???

What if it was the father….. or even the ‘family’ of the mother???

Remember that the baby was found with the umbilical cord still attached and it had been beaten to death. Could it, for example, have been an ‘honour killing’ – the baby was apparently of an Asian / Englich ethnicity.

The pregnancy apparently hasn’t been recorded at any medical centres in the surrounding area. Doesn’t this point towards a woman who conceived, kept the pregnancy ‘secret’ and then had the baby snatched from her immediatly it was born, murdered, and just dumped in a carrier bag.

You all rush to condemn the mother but I’ll bet it turns out that she is the victime here, along with her dead baby.

If its the case then she should of left and taken her baby, gone to a doctor to let them know about the baby so if this evil thing were to happen then there are records. I dont even see how this could be excused. The mother is as guilty as the killer if its not the mother. She should ring the police after all its her flesh and blood that was killed and to me as a mother myself nothing in this world comes close!

And if this was a baby of Asian descent, is there not the possibility the baby girl was killed because she was not a male first born? It does happen you know. My mums brother was ‘swapped’ at birth with a baby girl and they tried to do a runner with the baby boy. Why? Because the Burmese are much the same as the trend in that part of the world, first born has to be a boy. Fortunately they were caught with my uncle before they got away.

And whats if the mother was killed to conceal the evidence? What if she didn’t know her outcome? Does that still make her as guilty?

Too many people jump to too many conclusions, as proved on this thread. If the facts aren’t available, don’t replace it with sensationalism, guessing and fiction.

Good point Magoo – and what about the insensitiveness of the police – calling a baby found in the river – Lily – FFS

    FACT????? …..Er not necessarily Becky.

You assume that the mother wasn’t also killed in an ”honour killing” by her own famiily. Maybe she was, maybe she wasn’t – right now nobody knows.

You asume that her ”family” knew all about this pregnancy and birth – we simply don’t know do we?

First you accuse the mother, then you accuse the familly and arro=gantly state ”FACT” at the end of your tirade of accusations.

How about you wait for some real facts before you pronounce ”FACT” and sit back with an air of smug self righteousness?

The part where i said FACT was the part where i said SOMEONE knows something and they do so before you use my quotes get them right! I never said her family knew about it either. And as for smug POT KETTLE AND BACK PB im far from smug this is a sick story and not a place for egos ok??
