Why are the FA always choosing “yes” men to lead our national football team? It seems to me that the FA are scared of people like Martin O’Neil and Sam Allardyce. We need managers with the guts to speak out and have the nerve to make changes where THEY seem fit. Not managers who will bow to every FA whim and prayer. Haven’t we learnt yet that its “managers” that win football games NOT the organisation surrounding them.

There’s no way Pompey would have stayed up Driv if Harry Redknapp hadn’t been behind them. The managerial role is pivotal.
Team + decent Manager wins matches! 8)

Well that shows how much you know about football Drivel and coming from the north east I can understand why. Of course players äctually “win” the games but it takes a bloody good manager with grit and determination to drive them. You only have to look at Chelsea before Mourinho came along. Great players … crap manager. Look at Real Madrid… probably the best group of players in the world BUT A CRAP MANAGER.
England needs an outspoken coach with the balls to take on the FA and someone who can kick Englands butts all the way to a world cup final. Unfortunately its the FA that make these appointments and all they want is someone to tow the line and not rattle any cages……….5 May, 2006 at 1:42 pm #213174I think i should be in charge of the FA.
5 May, 2006 at 4:52 pm #213175Mclaren…. great… when we’re Three Nil down… on go Owen, Defoe, Crouch and Bent and off come the defence!
Great tactics against Eastern European club teams…. less so against Brazil.
England should have held out for O’Neill.

They didn’t exactly give Ranieri, did they? He was only there barely a season when money bags took over. And he did a pretty damn good job managing Chelsea with the amount of funds he was getting! Now look at the amount of funds Mourinho is getting? He has made some awful buys, and tripled a few players worth as a player…This rotation system won’t do them any favours in the long run when it comes down to buying world class players.
Even though he has won the league twice(even though it was expected with about 300 million quid he has spent on players, and 2 squads to choose from), he will be the death of Chelsea in the long run, and it is showing already, with players refusing to join up with Chelsea, mainly because of their awful rotation system, and players like Robben wanting to leave due to it…So no, Mourinho, in my opinion, is doing an awful job with Chelsea, and in the long run, it will show.
