Ok I have my driving test next friday, was ok up until now but now I’m getting really nervous about it. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or advice over getting over the nerves and getting through the test!
10 March, 2006 at 11:35 am #203320only 1 piece of advice id give you… If you do make a mistake during the test ( and not a serious 1 )… ie like I did… when reversin around the corner, i started to mount the pavement… but without sayin anything I went round and re-postioned the car and did it spot on… now at the time i really thought id failed… but turned out i passed…
just try and think its ur drivin instructor sitting next with you, try not to get too nervous i know its hard not to… just relax and be positive. They do take into account nervousous but if they felt that this could bring on a danger u’ve failed before u started…
id like to be a driving instructor…. lol but sadly my nerves when im out with my mother driving… and she’s passed.. im like nope..

Lol fair enough!
Thanks for the tips mary_J, I know how to drive and am generally quite confident, I just think the nerves might get to me on the day
10 March, 2006 at 11:55 am #203323I’d go North and take the test in Scotland Galaxy
If Mary passes her test after mounting a kerb and reversing into a lamp post – you’d probably have to knock someone over to fail there !!!!!!
10 March, 2006 at 11:57 am #203324you really don’t learn to drive until your solo on the roads, just use common sense… know the dangers… good luck… i passed way back in ’89 .. im sure id struggle especially with the theroy test these days.. maybe people who have passed years ago should have to take new tests..! ohh lordy b ugger that thought lol…
10 March, 2006 at 12:34 pm #203325I enjoyed learning to drive, I was rarely ever nervous even in the more demanding situations on busy roads. When my test day came, I made myself think of it as just another lesson, and I passed first time.
I’ve always been nervous at any kind of exams, so not thinking of my driving test AS an exam, actually helped me.
The only stupid thing I did was this…………
Before moving off, I did the MSM ( mirror, signal ,maneuvre )I pressed down slightly on the gas pedal, as I eased-off pressure on the clutch, and tried to detect the ‘biting point’ when the clutch makes contact. Just before I anticipated the biting point, I placed my hand on the handbrake and thought to myself…………”Why don’t I feel anything here”?
It was then I realised I hadn’t switched on the f..king ignition. I turned to the examiner and said………..”I’m going to go through this moving-off bit again, only this time with the engine actually running“. She just laughed. She didn’t fault me for it.

LOL! See now thats the kind of stupid mistake I would make ( No offence! ) I’ve never been nervous on any of my lessons, I love driving, I think its cos its an actual test thats making me nervous and its not like anything ive done before, but hey its not the end of the world if I fail, I can keep trying until I do pass :D

God almighty Mary have ya lost your mind    All i can say is there would be a lot less drivers on the road if this happened

I dont think i could even contemplate having to take my test again even tho i passed first time    :lol:10 March, 2006 at 12:46 pm #203328Ive had this discussion with my dad, especially when I was learning the stuff for my theory test and hazard perception test, we came to the conclusion he wouldnt have a hope in hells chance of passing the theory, let alone the practical test
