I have come to the conclusion that the bickering/fighting on these message
boards is discouraging new posters and driving regular posters away.
The chatrooms are busier than the M25, so why aren’t the boards busier? With a little more effort and restraint from the few loyal posters we have left
here, JC could be a fun place to visit and contribute to (once again). What do you think?
18 January, 2006 at 12:03 pm #183047I take it you are referring to the site i told you about Sian darlin lol
oh and Owen mate i said other cos i think it is all the above mate :D
18 January, 2006 at 12:19 pm #183048A very interesting topic Owen. I agree with Sian that some message boards are terrible – full of outrageous filth or insults or just constantly spammed with constant postings of emoticons and inane comments. By contrast JustChat is pretty mild.
I dislike the boards that are too severley moderated where anything that the owner/moderators disagrees with is banned or users are booted out for the smallest infringement.
We do try to take a reasonably relaxed view and allow users a lot of leeway in what they post. I guess that it is pretty obvious to most users where the line is and only on really few occasions is it necessary to press the ”magic button”.
I guess that one of our problems is that we are not a ”single issue” site dedicated to a particular interest group. We simply offer a venue for all users to post their thoughts and views on pretty much any subject that they can think of.
This can lead to periods where there are no ”interesting” topics that attract a range of views and debate. Conversley the opposite can happen and the posts are flowing fast and (sometimes) furious.
At the end of the day there are a few very well known ”battlers” who sieze every opportunity to have a go at each other – usually on the same old grounds. Sometimes i wish they could change the script a bit, just to keep it interesting. But hey, that’s life and they are entitled to hate whoever they wish.
The bottom line is to reduce the unnecessary drivelling on posts, as this is just plain boring; keep reasonably to the topic; and maybe post some ”challenging” topics that fire up the imagination.
18 January, 2006 at 12:29 pm #183049I know you can take it darlin

18 January, 2006 at 1:41 pm #183050Reading the same old same old (flaming crap) is rather tedious now don’t you think? maybe at one time it was fun to read but it’s played out now and more akin to watching paint dry.
I think it’s now high time to change the record for the sake of peoples sanity.18 January, 2006 at 4:22 pm #183051@Ow£n Ka$h wrote:

I think…..
Because this place is so quiet recently, I have had to find new message boards, one was the LOST forum, which always has something to read, another is a huge site that always has 1-2 thousand posters every time I visit – even at 2am. The third is a place about the size of this where I get to play with extra buttons because I became a moderator. 8)
As has been pointed out numerous times – the fight threads are the ones that get the most views, and thats fine if they keep to their threads. What a lot of peopl find annoying is a good thread that people then start fighting on, completely ruining it.
Also – it doesn’t help because of the infamous ‘Rachel and her 50 usernames’ that everyone is now suspicious of any new person joining, so they make nasty comments – can we blame them for not rushing back???
I consider myself a loyal JC-er, I keep visiting because there are a lot of decent people on this site……unfortunately they are all drifting away, and the ones who remain complain tht JC ‘isn’t what it used to be’ (myself included) because, let’s face it – it isn’t, but it’s our own faults.
We need to all get a grip, invite other people to join, and most importantly, stop scaring off the ones that are brave enough to try and join in.
Sorry….I’ll shurrup now…

Agreed. A lot of people are suspicious of new users too, me included.
But you are correct in saying that people need to get a grip. Its the same old same old in the various arguments which erupt on an almost daily basis now. I wish that every user would sometimes re read what they have just typed by clicking the preview button. Does it really need to be said?
Sometimes if we sit back and watch the drama llamas at work it can make one realise what on earth we get ourselves caught up in. (school yard politics* At the end of the day where does the arguements get them? Nowhere, they never settle them, they just carry on old battles in new threads.
Thats me done too! 8)

The numerous ‘views’ of the fight threads can be attributed to the flamers
who keep revisiting the thread to read responses, and to post their own
responses.
There are a few who read the fight threads without contributing, but surely JC
is all about contributing and contributors?
The constant fighting is driving new and old users away from JC. -
