The general idea of this topic is to be a place where people can casually talk about and discuss Islam and all things relating to Islam; this ranging from the theological foundations of how Islam came to exist, what its mainstream teachings are, and to highlighting and discussing various events and happenings in the UK and around the world that involves Islam in some way.
I think it would be good for people who might normally remain on the sidelines as quiet spectators, to feel as though they’re able to come here and share their thoughts, fears, and hopes without necessarily having to be made to feel like a bad or judgmental person for doing so. And as this evidently can also be a fantastic way to learn, I would of course absolutely encourage all forms of questions in the hope that others who are more attentive or knowledgeable on the subject can chip in to provide some good factually accurate answers, or to just share their own personal views and opinions on the matter.
When something is at the forefront of so much national and international attention, but yet is not thought to be represented as much in public discourse; then in my view that perceived lack of public discourse needs to be addressed, and so here we have one such attempt to do just that.
I ask that everyone please try to remain civil throughout and absolutely do not resort to any racism, personal insults, and/or abuse directed at any other members.
* A note to those who may frequent here *
ForumHosts: due to the inherent nature of this topic, some things may crop up from time to time which could be deemed a bit “unpalatable”, so I’d like to request if you could please take this into account and to please use some discretion in order to let the conversations continue to flow smoothy and unabated – providing of course that things are kept civil.
Non-Muslims: there are certain texts in Islam that can be interpreted to mean that they permit Muslims to give false information about Islam to non-Muslims, especially so as to present the faith in the best possible light. You must therefore expect some Muslims to post in here with the intent of deliberately giving misleading information that is contrary to what can justifiably be said to be true, so please exercise caution when reading.
Muslims: because certain texts exist in Islam that can be interpreted to mean that they permit you to give false information about Islam to non-Muslims, then I would please request for you to try to post evidence with any assertions you make about Islam if possible so that it can be checked and validated. As well as acting to protect non-Muslims from deliberate false information, this also helps to ensure that you as a Muslim have good and accurate knowledge about your faith which will help you to be a better and more informed Muslim.
There’s no reason why this can’t be an interesting, insightful and beneficial topic for both non-Muslims and Muslims alike.

In the meantime:

I love the intelligence which has led BB to reserve this and another similar box for comment. That way, s/he can insert comments after the thread develops – you can play all sports of clever games with that method. It’s real neat, a trend-setter maybe?[/i]
31 October, 2014 at 12:22 pm #523898How kind of BB to let us discuss a topic he wishes us to discuss…..we must be incapable of instigating such threads ourselves……and thank God (any God will do) that he has asked for peace and calm because I would have just been uncontrollable in my replies…felt the need to throw a tele through my screen or somthing similar that would have got the JC Police to pay me a visit…..don’t think I woiuld survive well in a JC Prison
Praise be to (insert as applicable)
31 October, 2014 at 2:10 pm #523899While we’re at it can we also discuss Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism, etc .. and their effects on today’s society … and not only, or do I have to create a separate thread?
31 October, 2014 at 2:25 pm #523900Since it’s Hallowe’en it would be remiss to not also discuss Wicca, Paganism and possibly Druids as well :D

So I’ve saved those spots for two reasons:
1) I’m going to write a really short and brief introduction to Islam so that people who have absolutely no idea about it can come to understand the very basics. This hopefully will help people to follow the conversations better from the outset. I’ll do this when this topic has been up for a little while and when I’m happy that the Forum Hosts don’t object to it and won’t delete it.
2) I’m intending to make various fairly in-depth posts touching on different areas of Islam, and then post direct links to them underneath the short introduction. This will help to keep things on topic throughout, as well as provide people with easy access to the more ‘juicier’ and relevant posts without them necessarily having to go through potentially lots of pages of “fluff” talk – a quick index, if you like.
(The second spot is just in case I run out of room on the first spot)
It’s not some kind of underhanded malicious trap or anything, lol…

Well I’ll be posting in here too so…
And I’m not stopping anyone from making other threads or anything, I just thought it would be a good idea to have a single place to casually talk about Islam, that’s all. It apparently seems a taboo subject now a’days that a lot of people are apprehensive to talk about, when it shouldn’t be.I reiterated those rules just to make it clear that the intent of this thread is to discuss things in a civil way and not to start some kind of e-war. Hopefully everyone will adhere to them so that this thread doesn’t acquire reasons to be deleted. Plus I think that it’s always good to highlight the fact that talking about Islam in itself does absolutely not equate to racism or to being abusive – not anymore than talking about Christianity equates to racism or to being abusive anyway.

They will come up anyway because they play a large part in Islams history, as well as being bound to pop up in arguments (debates) that seek to make comparisons between Islam and other religions. Everyone can obviously post whatever they want here, but yeah ideally it would be great if they had their own separate threads in order to talk about them specifically, what with the title of this one n everything, ya know?

(Paganism does play a large part in Islam too though so that will definitely pop up here)
