I bought a bar of Pears Soap this morning……….This was something we had in the bathroom when I was a child. It had one of those scents that’s firmly etched in your mind 40 years later and today I wanted to smell it once again. As a child I don’t think I ever made up my mind whether I liked it or not. so……..unpacked the shopping and then opened the box, snipped open the wrapper and………complete and utter disappointment. Same design appearence although not as dark and a scent that is nothing like I remember. I expect some substances they used yesteryear aren’t allowed today. Oh why can’t they leave alone?
Anyone else had the same thing?

2 June, 2013 at 8:44 pm #519577Been tempted to do the same many a time with different products which could be found in our family home, when I was a child, one of which was also Pears soap (you’ve saved me the trouble :) ) , for the same reason you mentioned, Tinks.
I’ve heard another soap no longer smells the same (Knights Castilles), was wondering if Imperial Leather has changed it’s scent?
One thing I did buy is Anne French Cleansing Milk …. and guess what, it still does smell the same.
I’ve never used it, but once in a while I open the bottle … take a whiff …. and I’m a kid once again, sat at my mother’s dressing table, trying on her make up and cleansing routine :D2 June, 2013 at 9:20 pm #519578ahhhh yes i noticed that about knights castille too

3 June, 2013 at 12:39 pm #519580Have things changed or is it just memorys letting us down?
Theres a robin williams film where they take memorys and play them at funurels, theres a bit where a woman goes mad over a colour of a car, she remembered it green but in fact it was blue, from childhood to adults memory changes, thats why in real life even the police say an eye witness is the most unreliable scource due to subjestiveness, not sure thats even a word, but hope you get my drift

3 June, 2013 at 4:07 pm #519583good point there lucy……….40 years is a long time and things do get hazy along the way…….i’d like to think though that my nose is still in good working order and the manufacturers have had to change their ingredients due to animal testing issues, safety of substances etc…
