So is Nigel Farage a racist?
My husband tells me UKIP are racist.. I remember panda used to say the same here…. but I watched an interview with Nigel Farage recently and found myself agreeing with much of what he said… so does that mean I’m racist? I’m not in my everyday life, and dare I say that I have friends of many different races… its all very confusing :?

I do think Cameron is about to dish him with a promise of an in-out referenndum, just as Thatcher dished the National Front once by reaching out to their supporters on the question of immigration.
The issue which has attracted UKIP support is the EU, despite theri stress on immigration – and that is a more pressing issue than racism. It does involve what we mean by being British, though, and UKIP doesn’t have a monopoly on that.
23 January, 2013 at 11:27 am #517517The lines of racisms have become a bit blurred over the last few years. It seems to be more of a personal opinion wether someone thinks what has been said or done is racist or not. And I think it’s quite sad that some people feel they cannot voice an opinion becasuse they will be put down, branded a racist, or even be accused of using the race card.
I personally think Nigel Farage is a racist. He is the leader of a party that, it’s well documented sends out racist messages…in my humble opinion. Panda gave us many quotes, links etc to this party’s activities.
Mrs T, I don’t think Mr Farage will ever give a hard core interview for the mass public. He has a clever softly softly approach. And whilst I am not saying anyone is stupid and cannot see through this, it’s all well known historically that politicians lie and cheat to get to the top. Whilst Mr Farage may try to put immigration problems in such a way to make you feel at ease in the future in this country without being invaded by immigrants who take away your jobs and women, what’s to say when and if he is in power he deals with people like me or my mum that are here?
In my opinion and experince and indeed talking to friends and family, racism seems to be slightly on the increase again. Is that because of the influx of Eastern Europeans? If so, one Party’s policies on immigration comes to clash with another party’s policies and the innocent victims suffer. Innocent victims are the foreigners to these shores. Me, even though I was born here, and my kids even though they are a second generation here.
24 January, 2013 at 11:50 am #517518Farage has been spectacularly successful in pushing Cameron into a referendum on in/out of the EU, and thereby sealing the victory of the Tory right wing.
We may all suffer as a result – the politics ahead looks pretty worrying. We may get what he wishes for – and then we’re in trouble.
But Farage has also dished his own party, imho.
If you want a referendum to take the UK out of Europe why vote for Farage’s UKIP, which has no hope, instead of for the Tories, who will actually give you that referendum if they win – if..if…if??
24 January, 2013 at 10:54 pm #517519It will be interesting to see how things pan out.
I think that the Conservatives will have taken the wind out of his sails by promising a referendum… I dont like the idea that some people feel threatened by him and his policies so that’s enough of a reason for me not to vote for him….that and the fact my daughter said she will lock me in the house on election day if she thinks I might vote for them :D … I lead a scary life :D
