Record numbers visited UK retail websites on Boxing Day, with analysts suggesting shoppers are also using the internet to identify bargains.
UK internet users made 84 million visits to retail websites on Christmas Eve and 107 million visits on Christmas Day.

    Will the high Street survive?

Sad to say but I don’t think it will in its present form….. I think shopping centres will survive but only f they create a shopping experience. such as ice skating, fashion shows creches and the like….. City centres and high streets I fear are doomed :( My son and daughter did all their Xmas shopping online and they have weekly grocery deliveries all done online…. I think they are fairly typical of their generation.

Hmm i’m not so sure. There’s something about being able to try on a garment without being obliged to buy it.

Sending items back via the postal system can be a right kerfuffle when you don’t live near a post office which is open beyond your working hours. If i’m busy at the weekend it can be some time before i can send an item back.

Thankfully Topshop take some items (Not all) instore from an online sale. However i don’t think all retailers do this.

I hope the high street remains for years to come. There’s something about meeting up with friends for a social, a coffee and a browse through the bustling streets and shops.

i agree rainbow……….i like walking around the shops, having a coffee then carrying on till i’m done……..i do also like the fact i can order online and as yet i haven’t bought anything that’s needed to go back……..i like issues to be sorted as simply as possible and if sending something back that i’d bought online turned out to be a problem i would seriously reconsider whether i wanted to buy online again or at least for a while

i hope the high street is here to stay………we shall see

I am one of those people who when they find an article of clothing they like they buy the same thing in quantity.

For me I go to shops to try things and buy perhaps the first thing of a range I like. For example there is a clothes shop in France called Kiabi, where I found a shirt I liked. They also have an internet site and when they had an offer of buy one get five free then I did so.

Clothing and shoe sizes vary from store to store so often buying online is not good.

Electrical items though are a different matter and I often search and buy online for items I know about like printer cartridges or memory cards
