April Jones is dead? They haven’t found her body so how can they charge someone for her murder. Is there something I am missing here? The McCanns maintain hope that Madeleine is still alive but yet for some reasons police are saying that April has almost certainly been murdered.
10 October, 2012 at 10:34 am #512582We don’t know what evidence the police have but as they have charged him with murder and unlawful disposal and concealment of the body I would assume that they have sufficient evidence, including forensic evidence, to come to that conclusion.
Given the nature of the searches and the failure to find her, I suspect she’s been thrown into the river and the strong currents have taken her.
The McCanns are another story altogether…
10 October, 2012 at 6:21 pm #512583im sorry but i hate these threads about little kids, its sad enough as it is, without us speculating. but its a bit like jen said forensics etc
shes 5 years old she has celebral palsy, shes hardly likely to be found roaming round the woods, like a modern day little red riding hood, i get what you mean tiff your upset we are all upset, but i guess its down to the suspect now,to admit what hes actually done
and lets hope he doesnt do an ian brady on us all
anyway thats all i want to say on the matter.10 October, 2012 at 6:29 pm #512584if the body is missing the person cannot be charged with actual murder ……..other charges have to be made as there is vital evidence missing…….this was explained to me today.

Not so. From Wiki which gives the best layman’s interpretation (i.e. the meaning isn’t lost in lawyer-speak gobbledegook!):
Corpus Delicti is one of the most important concepts in a murder investigation. When a person disappears and cannot be contacted, many police agencies initiate a missing person case. If, during the course of the investigation, detectives believe that he/she has been murdered, then a “body” of evidentiary items, including physical, demonstrative, and testimonial evidence, must be obtained to establish that the missing individual has indeed been murdered before a suspect can be charged with homicide.[2] The best and easiest evidence establishment in these cases is the physical body of the deceased. However, in the event that a physical body is not obviously present or has not yet been discovered, it is possible to prove a crime took place if sufficient circumstantial evidence is presented to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.[3]
11 October, 2012 at 7:15 pm #512586I always thought you needed a body to prove that somebody had been murdered, otherwise how would anybody know for sure.. after all she could be just missing… but I guess that’s not the case. The police obviously are not telling us everything, as they have charged somebody with murder but cannot tell us what evidence they have on him and why they have come to this conclusion. I’m guessing they have found DNA or something, as that’s the only reliable way they can say she’s been murdered. Even a confession wouldn’t do it.
What’s frustrating with this is that the police are not telling us what they have found, unlike with the McCanns we were regularly updated on evidence found. But I suppose the police have their reasons for not letting this come to light, whatever they may be.
And sorry rogue, I don’t like talking about this either tbh. I have a 5 year old girl and it would break my heart if something like this happened to her.
I just wanted an explanation on why police assumed murder and not that she was missing, like in the case of Madeleine McCann.. as the belief is she could still be alive and April is assumed dead after x amount of days, without no proper explanation as to why police think this.

But hasn’t April’s abductor/killer etc.. been charged with murder? And concealment of her body, or both.11 October, 2012 at 9:09 pm #512588@tiffany wrote:

you seem completely deluded to think that a missing five year old will just spring out after a week from under the trampled feet of the search volunteers, while police bring about enough evidence to charge the former abattoir worker. Which by the way they have.
Cos she’s dead. That poor girl is chopped up and down drains. Poor lass xx
sorry you were saying ?
