We all encounter dilemmas throughout our day, but do you ever make a decision then wonder what other people would have done?
Here was my dilemma this morning. I drove into the car park as usual, went to the row nearest the shopping centre doors and as I came around the corner a car started reversing out of the ideal spot…result I thought. I drove in, parked up, got out and was about to walk away from my car when an elderly man stopped me saying “excuse me, I’ve been waiting for that space.” Now there was no one waiting when I came around the corner and the car park had lots of empty spaces. I gave him a confused look and said that I was sorry but I hadn’t seen him waiting at which he replied “well no, I’ve been driving around this block waiting for a space to come free, it’s easier for me and the missus to park here. Anyway there’s a space over there coming free that you can use.” I had to point out that it was a mother and child space and I wasn’t eligible for that.
Dilemma…do I move my car and give up the space even though he wasn’t obviously waiting and was just driving around in circles, or do I say sorry, I didn’t see you driving around but there are plenty more spaces in the car park. What would you have done?
And what dilemmas have you had recently?
14 September, 2012 at 12:38 pm #507867I would have said sorry but i didnt see you waiting, if i did of course i would have not taking that space, but i work here and this is my usual spot so i was quite surprised to see it taken in the first place. Then say that this place can be a nightmare to find parking, excuse myself and walk away.
Thats if i was feeling nice, otherwise i problably would have said: if you were driving around looking for a place then that not really waiting is it? Then I’d walk away.
14 September, 2012 at 12:59 pm #507868A customer’s bill has come to just over £75. As you’re packing her purchases, you see her 9 year old son pocketing a little item, value 70p. He knows you’ve seen him, his mother is oblivious. What do you do?
14 September, 2012 at 1:01 pm #507869be sneaky and say to the child, since your mother is a good costumer i’ll let you have that for free, but in future please ask your mother may you have it first, you dont want her to get in trouble do you?
Wink at the mother (who should be embarressed by now) and say ah dont worry about it, hes only young :wink:14 September, 2012 at 2:47 pm #507870Do you want a job?
Surely I’m not the only one with dilemmas…
14 September, 2012 at 3:15 pm #507871this week i have had a building contractor in my home telling me his company had to do certain jobs in my house ……….he said he used to be an exterior manager until he scr ewed up and now he’s on interiors and he hates his job………he said the guys that do the work are messy, slow and couldn’t give a toss and my kitchen will be in a right state when they have finished………..my other half collared him and made him come and see me yesterday to apologise as he had really upset me to the point that i broke down in tears……..my other half also told him to write me a letter of apology after we found out he has treated other people/women in the same way
I want to let his employer know what kind of an ar sehole they are sending round to people’s homes……….do i or don’t i?
the email is typed and saved…………..all i have to do is press ‘send’
14 September, 2012 at 3:53 pm #507872Ooooh not nice.
Given that he has a history of treating people this way, I’d press send…you never know how vulnerable the next person he talks to that way might be. I’d also be looking for reassurances about the quality of the work.14 September, 2012 at 4:33 pm #507873@jen_jen wrote:

14 September, 2012 at 4:46 pm #507874Please press send, that is the height of bad manners, you should never bad mouth your work place or collouges to the public and if he sc ewed up in his last postion he should have been fired and not move to an other part of the company, also dont forget to highlight that he told you about his failings and his displesure in his current postion.
If that was me i would have kicked him out of my house send an email to his boss letting him know that i no longer have confendance in the company and will not be using their service again.
Bloody cheek of him, fair play to your hubby Tinks, hope your feeling better now xx.

I’d have happily moved my car and given him the space near the shopping centre – he and his missus probably have trouble walking far but are not registered as disabled.
It’s no different to giving up my seat on the train, bus or in a waiting room for someone who needs it more than I do.
