I know a bit of an odd question, but was having a discussion after that shooting at the dark knight premier and got to saying….
Could this man in any way be sane to be able to do this?
Does the fact he planned it make him sane or just long term nuts ?
Will be be psychologically traumatised by what he’s done now or in time ?
So the other question is… how do you feel about shooting someone?
Could you do it?
Would you have to be in a position of fight or die before you could and would it still traumatize you after?
Could you do it to protect a love one? and would it still again traumatize you the fact you took a life despite why you had to do it?
Last option .. could you happily shoot someone and it not bother you particularly either way and its only the law thats stops you doing so ?
I don’t think there is necessarily a definative right or wrong answer to this as i think we are all different and have different coping abilities mentally and emotionally, but am curious as to the responses.28 July, 2012 at 2:56 pm #505268@(f)politics? wrote:

No.Does the fact he planned it make him sane or just long term nuts ?
Even the insane are capable of planning. Will be be psychologically traumatised by what he’s done now or in time ?
If the insanity can be cured, then yes, he would be traumatised by the realisation of what he’s done.So the other question is… how do you feel about shooting someone?

I don’t think anyone can really answer this question until they find themselves in the situation. I find myself torn; on the one hand I think every life is valuable and should not be taken lightly, on the other hand I would like to think that if I needed to defend all that is dear to me that I would be able to, but would I really? who knows? But yes, if I were able to do it I do think it would traumatise me afterwards. Even people who are trained to kill have some degree of trauma afterwards…unless of course they are psychopaths.Could you do it to protect a love one? and would it still again traumatize you the fact you took a life despite why you had to do it?
See above.Last option .. could you happily shoot someone and it not bother you particularly either way and its only the law thats stops you doing so ?
No I couldn’t.I don’t think there is necessarily a definative right or wrong answer to this as i think we are all different and have different coping abilities mentally and emotionally, but am curious as to the responses.
And just to clarify, the above are my personal opinions, not based in fact.
28 July, 2012 at 3:47 pm #505269Thought about this.. I could not randomly kill a stranger. I could however kill someone if my childrens lives were at risk. And i doubt it would even P.rick my conscience afterwards. so Yes poli,, I guess my answer would be YES.
As for that American dude, that was well bad ,as he was playing at being the baddie, but i feel he will emotionally “feel” it now. I think Deep down he thought he was in some form of shoot-em-up computer game..But it had no off switch to delete what he had done. I think it all started as a fantasy in his head.but when he never got the attention he craved, he actually did it as a ” Told ya So” scenario.

Ditto
28 July, 2012 at 4:04 pm #505271If it was to protect by children, I’d do it in a heartbeat without feeling any remorse at all. No one hurts my kids and gets away with it.
I think that American guy was living in some kind of fantasy world. I don’t know if the enormity of what he has done will ever register with him, or whether he’ll feel any remorse at all. I wouldn’t say he’s insane, as in he needs a padded cell, but he’s certainly got a screw loose somewhere.
