Anyone else going to be affected?
I’m sick of the pre recorded announcements by Boris Mop Head Johnson at Cannon Street telling me to take an alternative route.
If workers in London can’t get to work on time there won’t be any bloody Olympics! Grrrrr
12 July, 2012 at 10:34 pm #502177right now. I would Hate to be the folks with missiles on top of roofs. no wonder they said ” no”. I note it is not Posh Mayfair apartments. Id be freaking out !
13 July, 2012 at 8:54 am #502178I’ve just made sure I have paid for my sky! :)
13 July, 2012 at 9:30 am #502179Last time I posted about the excess cost and inconvenience of the Olympics – some of which I’m paying extra for on my Council Tax like other Londoners – I got accused of being unpatriotic and allsorts.
So as there have been far more authoritative reports to the contrary, I’ll stick to the party line. It’s worth it because:
it’s going to be a great shop window to the world,
re(?)generate the surrounding area,
bring loads of tourists who wouldn’t have come otherwise and they’ll all spend loads and loads of money which will fix the UK economy
Encourage greater participation in sport
Make for a healthier nation
Increase pride in the country
heal the sick
House the homeless
raise the dead
bring world peaceThat’s got to be worth a few hours spent in traffic queues, diversions and security checks and listening to Sir Paul McCartney hasn’t it?
13 July, 2012 at 1:59 pm #502180It’s scary stuff ! Ruby I agree…….
“The show of strength includes high-tech radar tracking Rapier missile batteries ready to bring down any hostile aircraft.
Troops were seen setting the systems up on Blackheath and Oxleas Meadow, both in southeast London, at Barn Hill in Epping Forest, Essex, and on the banks of William Girling Reservoir in Enfield, Middlesex.Smaller launchers for Starstreak high-velocity rockets are in place on the roofs of the Lexington Building in Bow and Fred Wigg Tower in Leytonstone, on either side of the Olympic park at Stratford in east London.
Residents of Fred Wigg Tower lost a High Court bid this week to block the missiles from being put on their block over safety fears.”
Personally I’m terrified of going anywhere near the Capital.
However I suppose we shouldn’t be too alarmed as the MoD leaflet states that the missiles
would only be deployed as a last resort. ….well I’m sure that makes everyone feel safer!
17 July, 2012 at 11:20 am #502181Well todays reports are very interesting….yesterday was the first day the special lanes were open and by all accounts it was a disaster…Yes I can understand it was the first day and there are bound to be teething problems……or should there be? Just over one week to go and a few weeks of the games is hardly room for teething problems…
When I drove through London a few weeks ago I saw the lanes with the olympic rings and picctures of bikes…I asked my friend what they were for…apart from the obvious, I personally thought they were for a bike events…what do I know
Last week I was near the O2 for a bite to eat and all you could see were “olympic” BMW’s just driving around the lanes (empty lanes wasting diesel with just one driver in each car)…
Tweets from competing athletes from abroad have already started…documenting the errors….I kind of get the feeling there is a lot worse to come (no I am NOT hoping..I love sports and love the fact we are hosting the olympics), my son pointed out that other countries probably have the same problems………and yes I am sure they had problems..but that isn’t an excuse for us…it’s just not good enough17 July, 2012 at 11:31 am #502182Looking forward to sampling the transport problems, sorry atmosphere, when I go to London for the first weekend – whatever made me think that was a good idea?
