What’s your opinion on them? Have you ever been in one? Did it work out? Do you believe you can fall ‘in love’ with someone via the net?
Thought it would be nice to start a thread about something different! and what I think most of us have an opinion on.

xxx :)12 June, 2012 at 12:32 pm #498947I don’t think you can fall in love with someone purely via the net. You can fall in love with the persona that they project, but you can only fall in love with the person when you have talked to them on the phone, met them and had a chance to see the real person behind the screen.
13 June, 2012 at 7:57 am #498948When I was younger, I thought I was in love with someone I met via the net. I didn’t understand what love really was back then, as I’d never really been in love before, or had a proper relationship, but like you say I guess it was their personality I fell for. I met this person, and they were very different to what I expected. Even when you see pics, chat to them for hours, you build up a preconceived idea of what they’ll be like, and I guess people put their best photo’s online, or sometimes really old ones (or fake ones!), and can be whoever they want online. In this case, Mr confident womanizer.. but in real life, not a chance! I did love this person when we met up and we had a relationship, but it all ended in tears.
The thing I found, and have learned from, if you meet someone online and end up dating, and continue to talk to them online when you’re not together physically, I know this is when trust comes into it, but I mean.. how do you not know they’re talking to several other girls? I found out, this person had. I also found out, because of the distance, he told me an awful lot of lies about his life, about his past, even claimed he had ex girlfriends he would bump into in the street and call me names. In the end, I found out through asking people he knew for real and family members about all of this. Everything had been a lie, and the ex girlfriends had been made up, and the name calling, came from him. He thought all of those things himself.
:(
The net can be such a dangerous place for ‘love’
13 June, 2012 at 9:35 am #498949Online you can be whatever you want to be. A frazzled housewife juggling house and kids can become a glamorous businesswoman dashing from meeting to meeting; someone who is housebound can become a socialising whirlwind; a shrinking violet can become sexy siren; a geek with little social skills can become a Casanova. The only limit is your imagination and your ability to keep up the facade.
If you’re lucky you’ll be chatting to someone who is the same online as they are in life, if you’re unlucky you’ll be chatting to someone who uses the net to escape their lives and be someone else. Just remember that what you see isn’t always what you get.
13 June, 2012 at 7:30 pm #498950I have never had an online relationship and wouldn’t.
However, I am very wary of what anyone tells me esp in chat even though they may be telling the truth.
I seemed to remember a certain soldier who wasn’t, a pilot who wasn’t and there’s probably a lot more in here and elsewhere.

I was hoping more people would reply with stories like that! :D I like hearing the success stories as well as b*tchy juicy ones! haha. A friend of mine got married to someone they met online about 8 year ago, they’re still together now. People can be genuine online, i feel myself am very genuine, don’t see the point in pretending to be someone your not, one day it will come back and bite ya in the bum! xx
