I did , and still feel bad about it now …..
I brought myself some shoes , got home didnt like them as much
took them back to the shop , the lady said we cant do refunds .
I said well i didnt buy them for me i brought them for my sister who
is in a wheelchair , we were hoping she would be able to walk by now .I did get my money back , but the guilt of that lie haunted me.
May i point out i was only about 15 at the time , not something i would
make a story up about now .I would be smarter now about it and say something more to do with
trade standards :lol:5 July, 2011 at 10:39 am #472199Along those lines I once said I hadn’t done my homework coz my friend had been run over!
Loosely based on the truth…. A friend of a friend had been run over!5 July, 2011 at 10:43 am #472200Trading standards wouldn’t have helped unless the goods were faulty or not fit for purpose; any shop that gives a refund or exchange because you’ve changed your mind does so as a goodwill gesture, not because it is a statutory right.
I can’t recall lying to get a refund but I’ve had to stand my ground for faulty goods a few times, one example being a sweatshirt, bought on the Friday afternoon, put on for travelling, sitting on the train and feeling a draught to realise that the whole side seam had come apart! Returning it on the Monday to be told that I must have pulled it hard for it to come apart like that and it wasn’t the company policy to give refunds. I pointed out my statutory rights for faulty goods and asked to see the manager, the shop assistant phoned them, turned out the manager was watching me on cctv and refused to come down and told the staff member to refuse me a refund. So I stood there and told everyone who came to the checkout what had happened…I got my refund within 10 minutes!
I have to say that some of the things that people have said to me on trying to return things to my shop have been beyond belief sometimes, and I have given 1 refund for sheer audacity!
