Ok. Can we have a proper recipe thread?
I know that recipes were posted on other threads but i dont know which ones and i thought it might be nice to have a dedicated thread.
NO HIJACKER PLEASE :D
I enjoy cooking and am quite good at it when i make the effort so some new recipes would be nice to experiment with.
Can I start by asking you, Annette, if u would put the recipe for home made bread pudding? ( and behave! I know we dont like each other put remember that others will be having a go at the recipe so dont be telling me to put henbane in it or summat :D ).
11 December, 2010 at 2:00 pm #456295This isn’t a recipe just a tip, when you have made your favourite chilli, just before serving it melt in two squares of plain chocolate… I know it sounds daft but truly its lovely it adds depth .. scrumptious!

Large white loaf
1/2 pint milk
2 oz vegetable suet
2 oz Demerara sugar
4oz raisins
4oz sultanas
3oz currants
1 ½ tsp mixed spice
I large egg
2 tsp granulated sugarPre heat the oven Gas mark 4.
Cut the crusts from the bread, and discard. Cut the bread into small squares and place in a large mixing bowl – pour the milk over , and leave covered for at least 30 mins.
Beat the bread with a wooden spoon, until smooth and free from lumps. ( you must make sure all the lumps are removed , or you will find after cooking there will be large unpalatable pieces of bread).
Add all the ingredients except the egg. Which you then need to beat lightly , then add to the mixture . When all the ingredients are added , beat really well , with a wooden spoon, making sure all the ingredients are mixed in well .
Spoon into the prepared greased dish, and bake in the centre of the oven for 1 ¼ – 1 ½ hours or until the pudding is cooked . It should feel firm to the touch , and the top should be golden brown .
Remove from oven , and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Leave to cool , before removing and cutting into squares.(I accept no responsibility if this doesn’t come out as it should )

2 Sticks Celery
2 medium Carrots
Medium Leek
large Potato
generous Handful of Lentils
pinch of mixed herbs
salt and pepper to taste
Water
Knorr veg StockpotAll the veg amounts can be adjusted to suit you! Chop all the veg to bite sized pieces, bung into a large pan, add the seasoning and herbs and lentils, boil the kettle and add to stockpot, I usually use about a pint and a half of water but this again can be altered to suit if you want thick broth or a lighter soup. Add to pan stock. Bring back to boil and simmer for about half an hour.. or until all veg is tender.
If you want to add bacon or ham you can just adjust salt.
11 December, 2010 at 6:24 pm #456298a half hour simmer melody eeek.. I keep mine simmering for hours when using lentils as i love to watch soup becomming soup..that magic moment when the lentils melt into the mash of veg etc :)

I tend to boil not simmer too lol

I seeee ! no i like soup to stick to the ribs on a cold winter night..
best chicken soup i make is ( i dont measure )

chicken bones.

A good recipe I’ve been using lately to spice it up, is, simply cover the chips in garlic & rosemary (sparingly), and then oven them. :D
Much better then.
Obviously not as nice as shoving them in a pan of lard. But, they come pretty close if you’re wanting the woofter healthy option.
