The employers should issue an ultimatum: Call off the strikes or face the sack.
oh yes typical british , roll over and get ur belly tickled , good luck firemen , , BA, postal workers , construction workers ,and everyone else who is falling victim to so called “mordernisation ” what it really is is less pay , worse conditions and reduncancies , no fker will back them , its british culture “im alright jack ” but what about when u urself are affected ????

I believe everyone has the right to strike for their rights. The emergency services get critised for obvious reasons if they rock the boat. But what are they to do?

I’m a working class girl from a working class background and support the strikes. Lots of working class like myself have probably moved up a class in other peoples eyes due to a better living, ie I was bought up in a council house now own my own etc.
But my roots and heart will never change. My dad was a die hard activist for workers rights and he died in the 70s. I will never forget.British or English ?
As long as this country and indeed any country allow an elite handful to dictate ” values ” upon it’s people while living in absolute luxury, that system will bring nothing but doom.

ffs, just typical of todays society Im afraid..
power to the unons,, !I am torn on this one. I don’t like the fact that local government takes the first excuse it can find to put the thumb screws on our public services. On this occasion, the country is in so bad a state and we all have to “tighten our belts” and poor firemen are going to have to do the same.
WRONG
This country is coming out of recession nicely, and we are being fed the worst possible scenario in order for the government to put in place new rules and guidelines to keep the proles subdued. Well, I suspect the firebrigade may just be a test case. Which is why I am torn, because actually, I don’t agree with firemen striking, particularly on 5th November, that’s just plain dangerous!

most firemen have second jobs or business because they want more
they dont want change because it will mess up their cosy out side interestspersonlly i think we should privatise the fire brigade
we all pay for it but how many of us ever use it
we should all be insured for it so if you crash your car or burn your house down
they should invoice for the service and then can be claimed of insurance
most call outs are for car crashes or a property on fire and they all have insurance or should have
if an insurance company can cover the cost of a new car or compensation for injurys and the rebuilding of a property etc the cost of cover for the fire service attending would be minimal especially for most of us its never ever neededI am all in favour of workers striking for their rights, and I appreciate the whole point that on November the 5th such strikes would have a huge impact and people might actually take heed and listen to the plight of the fire brigade, but at the same time I wonder how fire personel who join the fire brigade with a sense of duty and passion for saving and promoting life could begin to consider leaving areas without their skills on the busiest night of the year for their services? Are they admirable or irresponsible?
