In my research and considerations of ” Freedom ” of late, i came across this article. Obviously further research is to be carried out on the points here to try and establish facts to support them. Thanks to the increasing amount of knowledge now available via the interweb, we can now make educated and informed opinion where facts prevail. The English Reformation, the creation of the church of England with a monarch as its supreme head (recognised by all clergy) and the surrender of the CoE of ALL its legislative powers and independence to the monarch actually happened!
The 1534 Act of Clergy Submission removed ALL rights of appeal to the church in Rome and ended all papal influence in England.
Proposing urban myths is fairly fruitless really.
Oh..and one more thing- the term “Britain” refers to England, Scotland and Wales as a whole- in 1213 “Britain” didnt exist- in fact not until the act of Union in 1707 did England, Wales and Scotland finally join together so the Pope was not in any position to claim ownership of “Britain” and does not have any ownership rights to this country.

THE Church of England has been labelled ‘defective’ and not a ‘proper’ church in a declaration approved by the Pope.
The internal Vatican document, written by one of Pope John Paul
II’s closest aides, also states that non-Christian religions are ‘gravely deficient’ while their rituals form ‘an obstacle to salvation’.The statements have been greeted with dismay in Church of England circles, and are seen as an unnecessary setback on the road to greater religious understanding.
A spokesman for the Church of England Council for Christian Unity said: ‘It appears that this is merely restating the position on other churches but it is expressed in disappointing language.
‘The document does not reflect the deeper understanding achieved between the churches over the past years.’ The attack on non-Christian religions has been interpreted as a targeted swipe at religions in India and South East Asia in particular. Tom Horwood, of the Catholic Media Office, said the statement had to be taken in its context – as an internal document intended only for Catholic theologians.
‘We are concerned that this rather difficult theological document will somehow be misinterpreted as a slight on other Christian religions,’ he said.
‘That is not the intention of it nor is it what the Catholic church believes.
‘We are not about to stop calling the Church of England a church in common parlance but in its strict theological sense then the Catholic position is that it is not.
This is not a change from the past position.’ Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who wrote the document and is the Vatican official in charge of ensuring doctrinal correctness, has written to bishops world-wide declaring that the Catholic church is the ‘mother’ of other Christian churches.
He stated that it was incorrect to refer to Christian churches, ranging from Orthodox to Protestant, as ‘sister’ churches.
‘It must be always clear that the one, holy, catholic and apostolic universal church is not the sister, but the mother of all the churches,’ Ratzinger was quoted as saying.
The term ‘sister churches’ is used often in dialogue aimed at fostering closer ties among Christians.
Pope John Paul II is due to meet the Queen, who is Supreme Governor of the Church of England, in Rome next month.
