Every working day for the last 20 years I’ve been greeted by a majestic sight as I arrived at work. It’s branches spead out to welcome anyone appreciative of its beauty. The ever changing colours of its leaves the bareness of its branches through the seasons have continued for over 300 years. For days one summer I stood under it desperate to see that ever elusive Woodpecker I could hear tapping away, without success.
It provided a huge umbrella of shade for children playing in the hot sun, a nesting place for many birds and nuts for the squirrels. A tree surgeon has now said it’s got a flipping great hole right up the middle and is diseased and must come down in the summer holidays!
I’ll miss that Copper Beech, it’s roots will wither and so will my heart!

Rose………..when i was a tiddler at primary school there was a tree that all of us loved….a few years ago I went back to visit and that tree was no more…….just a stump……..which actually made a great seat to sit on and reflect……lots of memories brought back by what was left of an old favourite.
