A US cage fighter ripped out the heart of his training partner while he was still alive after becoming convinced he was possessed by the devil.
Wyatt also cut out his friend’s tongue and ripped off most of his face in a brutal assault that police said looked like a scene from a horror film.
They found the 26 year old standing naked over his friend’s body with body parts, including an eyeball, strewn around the blood splattered room.
Wyatt told police he had drunk a cup of tea spiked with hallucinogenic mushrooms and became convinced his close friend Taylor Powell was possessed.
According to an autopsy Powell,21, bled to death after his heart was ripped out.
The coroner said Powell had been alive when the organ was ripped out after his chest had been sliced open with a knife.
Wyatt told the police he thrown the heart into a fire along with other organs that he had removed from the body.
He told investigators he cooked the body parts because he was fearful Powell was still alive and he “needed to stop the Devil.”
Police had been called to the grisly scene after a third friend had witnessed a sudden mood change in Wyatt after they had all ingested wild mushroom tea.
Justin Davis told police he returned to the flat in Klamath, California, to find Wyatt naked and covered from head to toe in blood.
He noticed an eyeball lying in the middle of the floor and saw Powell’s mutilated body.
A lawyer representing Wyatt has claimed the wild mushrooms caused him to act in such a violent way and had not control over his actions “My client was trying to silence the devil,” said James Fallman.
“I think he was having a psychotic fit based on the mushrooms he had.”
Wyatt has been charged with first degree murder and torture.
Prosecutors added the torture charge as Powell was still alive when his heart was removed.
So yeah lets let people stick whatever they want in their bodies, it’s their choice eh

2 June, 2010 at 11:34 pm #441444That’s the chap that did the deed. ‘A lawyer representing Wyatt has claimed the wild mushrooms caused him to act in such a violent way and had not control over his actions.’ Does the face of this man and the description ‘cage fighter’ not give anyone a clue that he might be of a slightly violent nature in the first place? Call me a daft old hippy, but I suspect the whole It was the ‘shrooms, yer honour line might be a convenient excuse designed to lay the responsibility for this crime somewhere else from where it should lie: with the pituitary retard in question.
I’ve taken mushrooms dozens of times. In all that time I’ve never assaulted anyone. I’ve certainly never tried to rip anyone’s pumping heart from their body. This may be because I was distracted by the pixies every time but I don’t think so. I think it’s because each time I’ve taken mushrooms I’ve remained exactly the same person I was before I took them and just experienced the world differently for a few hours. To paraphrase the great Mr Hicks, it’s the same as that old chestnut about people taking acid, thinking they can fly and chucking themselves off a roof or out of a window. What a tragedy. No, what a dick. If they thought they could fly, why didn’t they try it from the ground first? You don’t see ducks taking lifts up to the fourteenth floor in order to initiate take off.
However, if you’re looking for a drug that does turn people into monsters, a drug that most people are happy to take a few times a week, check this out:
The 2000 British Crime Survey (BCS)15 a large-scale survey asking people about their
experience of victimisation, found that in 40% of all violent incidents the victim described the
assailant as being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the assault.*2 June, 2010 at 11:49 pm #441445Fair enough drugs can’t make you do anything violent whatsoever, violent people naturally rip the heart out of people while they’re still alive. Sounds plausible to me. One persons reactions to drugs isn’t necessarily everyones. “A mushroom made me do it” isn’t going to reduce that man’s sentence by one minute.
That alcohol is (can be) worse doesn’t alter what this man did, personally i don’t suffer from beer muscles anymore than you suffer from violent rage or delusion with magic mushrooms, but some people do.2 June, 2010 at 11:53 pm #441446It doesn’t make it an excuse to be punishing everyone else for his crime, either. In exactly the same way as you shouldn’t be deprived of your ale because of what beer fuelled idiots do up and down the country every weekend.
3 June, 2010 at 2:40 am #441447Another case of weakness here, mind over matter and thought control obviously missing in the genetic make up of this beast…. When i look around the streets at the young now, i see and hear mainly, absolute violence and agression coupled with the need to ” pump iron ” in a search for recognition and mainly vanity… You can expect alot more of this debauchery in the coming years i think..
3 June, 2010 at 12:27 pm #441448When I was young, the permissive society was about men growing their hair in a way that shocked their grandparents and middle-class girls behaving in a way that was calculated to shock Mummy and Daddy.
Now the permissive society is more about recreational violence, bullying, binge drinking etc.
