Since I went to my son’s options open evening I have had this urge (quite a little one) to learn a new language. The way the language teacher was going on about the importance of learning languages (which I do know already btw) and the global shift in economics etc in years to come got me thinking. He certainly sold his spcheel to me …and my son who is choosing 2 languages but he was going to anyway before the talk.
So if I’m to listen to my son’s teacher the 2 languages that would be beneficial in years to come would be a language widely spoken in India. I speak Punjabi so thats ok but the wider spoken language is Hindi which I can blag. Although I cannot write Punjabi.
The other language would be the one widely spoken in China. Now I lost concentration a bit am I right in thinking this is Mandarin?
So basically out of those 2 it has to be Mandarin. If I can’t get an evening class for that language what other language should I choose?
I can speak school girl French but thats about it.

9 March, 2010 at 1:20 pm #435398Mandarin is meant to be the hardest language in the world to learn, why doesn’t everyone just speak English it’s the international business language and music language for that matter. If you’re gonna learn another one i’d go for french

Mandarin may be the hardest language in the world Pete but I think because I speak Punjabi maybe I will be able to pick up the gist as we use sound sounds instead of letter sounds too if you get what I mean.
I have a CSE in French, not that I can remember much, and must admit I’m not too keen to sit through that one again. I think my next choice maybe be German.10 March, 2010 at 9:22 am #435400Germans a toughie Kent what with feminine masculine and neuter… I’d go for spanish for starters… nice and easy and sounds lovely :)

11 March, 2010 at 11:32 am #435404Well so much for me trying to make my self more edumecated
The college in my town doesn’t hold any language classes except basic English courses without any qualifications at the end of it. The sister college in Dartford doesn’t hold any language courses either. So basically I’m buggered unless I buy those CD’s. Which to be honest is not really me as I can’t concentrate on things when I have to take it upon myslef to learn. :roll:11 March, 2010 at 12:42 pm #435405So basically I’m buggered unless I buy those CD’s.
