Alcoholic drinks ‘to carry health warnings under plan to stop binge drinking’

Bottles of wine, beer and spirits will have to carry warnings about the health affects of alcohol and reminders to drink responsibly under Government plans to be unveiled today.
The warnings, which would be similar to those carried on cigarette packets, would appear on all drinks sold at shops and supermarkets in an attempt to address Britain’s binge-drinking culture.
The labels would include the number of alcohol units in each bottle, a reminder about the effects of alcohol consumption. and recommended daily limits.

Binge drinkers are hardly likely to read the frikking labels, and underage drinkers are hardly likely to!
It’s made no difference to ciggy smokers, only the people who don’t smoke have actualy noticed the pictures on ciggy packets and wondered why smokers still smoke.

Ah but theres a secret weapon referred to in the article

They would also include the logo of Drink Aware, a charity aiming to tackle Britain’s ‘national drinking culture.’

genius eh, a Drink Aware logo… thats like a crucifix to a vampire that is like a silver bullet to a werewolf

How about insisting that ALL containers of booze carry the warning:

“Drink is the refreshment of the Devil” ( )

That would be bound to work eh? You could unite all the Churches as one and have regular hellfire & damnation sermons preached across the entire country ….. mind you they’d have to have the warning clearly stated on bottles of Communion wine, chalices etc.

    Er ….. on second thoughts ……. !!!

How about some pubs and clubs take a lead and actually stop serving people at a certain point or if you drink too much a giant Drink Aware hoarding falls on you as it detects the amount of alcohol on your breath

A licencee (be it a landlord or an offy owner) is not suppose to serve anyone who is drunk, and is suppose to ask them to leave your premises. It’s the law.
