Why does it seem to have become more acceptable for pregnant women to smoke?
When I say acceptable I mean we see it alot more, especially the younger generation. Do they not have health education in schools anymore? Don’t the midwives shout at them anymore? When I was pregnant with my first, my midwife used to shout and embarass me infront of other expectant mums because I put on too much weight!! If I had been a smoker I think she would have seen fit to drag me through the town with a sandwich board on my back saying somthing not very nice  It’s not politically incorrect to tell someone of dangerous health implications. So what is it?

all smokers should be gassed full stop

It’s not acceptable Kenty, not in any way shape or form. They should care about the health of their unborn child if not their own, but they don’t.

A neighbour of a freind of mine, has a daughter, who she recently threw out of the house. This daughter receives all kinds of benefit at the moment, was living at her mums and not paying a penny towards the household, deeming it her money, to do as she pleased with. What she pleases is going out every night, getting absolutely trashed and expecting mum to just pick up the pieces. Well mum had enough and kicked her out, good for her!! I believe that the girl is now living with mates, mates who she goes out with every night to get trashed, I wonder how long it’ll be before the ”mates” are sick of what will no doubt be, a screaming, un-settled child, that’s of course if social services don’t get to it first. This child is due in less than a month now, but she’s out every single night, drinking, smoking and doing god knows what else. People like her don’t deserve kids

    Very constructive thin.

Well I was one of those pregnant smoker’s. No I am not proud of the fact that I smoked during both my pregnancy’s though I did cut down dramatically & both my kids were good weights. So maybe I was lucky.

Does that make it ok? No it doesn’t but smoking is an addiction just like any other addiction but the bottom line is as with any addiction is you’ve got to want to stop.

There are worse things a pregnant woman could do …. heroin for example.

I’m don’t always get it right bringing up my kids but I do the best I can & that’s all any parent can do smoker or not.

I wonder how many stories that echoes up and down the country Cas. Although the sheer ignorance and stupidity of the young girl is so annoying its an extremely sad story. Even if society wanted to take responsibilty for this strayed generation how do we do it?

It was the topic on a TV programme couple days ago, I think it may have been ‘The Wright Stuff’, how do we turn around the current situation of some young, we don’t is the sad answer. Also with people like this particular young mum, it’s set to continue.

I remember at the time my sons g/f (at the time) was pregnant, with a child he! paid for, which turned out not to be his! but that’s another story. But I got into the middle of an argument between them one day, she was slating him for smoking a joint, for a little while I was totally speechless, when however, I did find my voice, I made a point of the fact that she was the one pregnant, and what was her excuse!!! because she too smoked dope throughout her pregnancy!! her excuse? it was to relieve the stress caused to her by my son and myself ,,,,,,,,,, yea rite

Hmm well seems to be lots of issues going on in that house Cas & it’s easy to judge but I assumed kenty’s post meant ciggies not drugs & booze.

btw I’m not judging anyone was just somthing I see alot of as I sell ciggies, and obviously pregnant ladies come in for them too…never seem to hear anyone say…what I was brought up to believe..thats its wrong.

I’m sure that’s what she meant to Sarah like i’m sure there are lot of other issues going on in that house. Some of the issues I know of, some of them being her mum herself has been very ill, she doesn’t need the kind of stress this girl brings. She see’s it as everyone else responsibility to buy things for that baby except her! her money is hers! and she’s entitled to do as she pleases with it. Yea she is, once she’s supplied what her child needs!!! not before it!

Drugs and booze are a big issue, whether your smoking 20 B n H a day or shoving drugs into yourself, it’s not that babys fault your in the situation you are, and their needs should be paramount to yours!
